I need a new desktop to enter into the HDV arena. From your experience, what’s the best way to go? (I’m not a “build-it-yourself” type). I need a reasonably priced box with decent performance. HELP!

    Thanks,

    Mike L.

I would buy an AMD Dual Core machine (if you are running Vegas 6 or plan to upgrade). Intel machines from Gateway and HP are out there right now for $1000 price range

You say “dual core Gateway and HP are out there right now for $1000 price range” What else should we be looking for in a ready-made computer that will allow us to use Vegas 6 to best advantage without breaking the bank?

A general rule is get a second hard drive for video capture, 250GB(about $100 extra) is usually a good starting point. Try to get a system that doesn’t have the video card built into the MB. I’m not sure if Vegas makes use of Open GL so that may or may not be a consideration.

I’m a little bit pro HP.(That is just an opinion)
