    Motion’s “All Caps” option is very similar to Illustrator’s “Small Caps”. Both give you all capital letters with only the 1st letter larger than the rest. In Motion, you can control how much smaller the other letters are with the All Caps Size slider.

    You haven’t explained what steps you’re taking, but perhaps you aren’t selecting the individual characters before adjusting the sliders? If you select the text layer and adjust the parameters, all characters in that layer change size, but if you click on the Text tool and drag to select a few characters, then adjust the sliders, you should only get those selected characters changed.

    Are you using 16-bit or 32-bit float rendering? The images look like they’ve been cropped because you’ve run out of VRAM on your graphics card, which could be triggered by any combination of larger image resolution, plus using Best mode, and/or enabling 16 or 32-bit rendering. Do the images need to be that size, are you zooming into them? If not, I would suggest decreasing the resolution of the images in an image editor before using them in Motion.

    It’s in the menu – View > Motion Blur. It’s also in the “View” button at the upper right of the canvas.

    One way is to create a text object using the font/style you like, entering some obvious text like “Add Text”, then drag & drop this text object from the Layers list to the Favorites Menu category in the Library. You can then add text from the menu quickly without having to change the font.

    It’s also possible using the System Preferences to create a key shortcut for this saved text object, to make it even faster. Just go into the Keyboard preferences and enter the exact name of the menu under the Motion application, and assign it a key (make sure it’s not a shortcut already in use – I used option-t for this). Now, whenever I need a new text object, I just hit option-t and it appears instantly in the center of my canvas in the font and style I normally use.

  • You can try exporting the frame you want to hold from Motion as a single frame in a format that supports alpha channel, like PSD or PNG or TIFF. Then import that into FCP and place it over your video track at the hold point, trimming the Motion animation to the frame before. Should be much faster to render.

    You can use the bezier shape tool to draw lines too, not just curves. Turn on the grid from the View menu and make sure snapping is turned on, then click once for the first point and double-click for the second point to complete the line. You can then duplicate this line as many times as you need to create a grid, or use the replicator to automate this.

    In the Export dialog, there is a popup labeled “Export Preset”. Usually it is set to “DV NTSC Movie”, but you can change it to “Lossless+Alpha Movie” to get a QuickTime movie with an alpha channel.

    After you turn on fixed resolution for the parent layer, apply Basic 3D to the parent layer, not the graphic. The Basic 3D filter will still rotate around the center of the parent layer, but you can position the graphic anywhere you want within the layer to get offset anchor point rotation of the graphic.
