simple lines and boxes??
i’m trying to create a grid, something similar to an Excel spreadsheet. of course there is the rectangle and circle tools, but i don’t see one that would just draw lines. i’ve used the rectangle tool, but i have to first draw it on (solid), then go change the parameters for it to be just an outlined box (so i can see my numbers. i’ve checked both the book and the online manual but nothing about lines.

You can use the bezier shape tool to draw lines too, not just curves. Turn on the grid from the View menu and make sure snapping is turned on, then click once for the first point and double-click for the second point to complete the line. You can then duplicate this line as many times as you need to create a grid, or use the replicator to automate this.
