Thanks,
I’ve learned, the hard way, to ask the simple questions

What Vegas did to my feature film when I tried to re-capture video from my camera tapes, was to distroy clip data on some tapes. Not just miss some clips, or capture them with drop-outs, but capture a clip as PAL instead of NTSC and change the timecode capture data many hours off. Sony could not help,
Ed saved me by telling me about the “replace clip feature”.
I had to create new project and tape bins and exactly the same timecode data, entered by hand, then capture and replace the damaged clips. As the new/replacement clips recaptured perfectly, the computer, the capture card, deck etc, were not the problem. My old veg progect files were saved to cd. They had No viruses, I sent a copy to sony to check for hidden problems and they said the file was fine. They were very good about e-mailing me to check if I still had a problem, but could not find an answers. (or give me the “Replace clip work-around)I now save big jobs to two external hard drives and have one turned off when working with the other.
Vegas is a great program, as with all software, you just have to learn where the bugs are.

Makes good sense. I work as a film telecine colorist and know that the 3:2 pulldown only applies to 24fps speed, at other rates the math gets crazy.
thanks for your answer,

Do Clips that have been adjusted to , say, 19% slo-motion, at 50% transparancy, blended with with a clip on track 2 at 30% slo and 50% transparancy still have the same 2 fields per frame as the original 30fps video?

Thanks, this helps.
I’ll check out the computer vendors, and give it the sales pitch

$500 sounds fine. It’s always a matter of growing to bigger budgets, you have to make a start, and you have!
Next time talk about charges before you do the work.
Over the years most of my work started out this way, mostly by working for free first, or on spec. Then building to higher charges. One thing leads to another.
Good luck,

Sorry , that should be DVCAM the dsr200a camera not beta cam

Local cable will try to get the work away from you by offering it free/included as part of the clients advertising buy.
This is how they control the clients buy and keep them from going to other stations.I shot :30 sec spots and had a deal with a local production company for $500 total each years ago when I ran a small ad company.
I’m sure your time is worth at least $200, but as its local cable It might be hard to charge more $1000 per spot.
You can get an Idea by calling local video production companies and getting their rate cards, but deals are cut all the time.Call the station where the client is advertising and see what they charge per spot.
Advise the client only to buy local news, noon evening whatever he can afford. Nothing else works on local stations. When his spots start to work then he will give you more work. Try to do two things:
Place something in the spot that will track when the custemers come in to buy from him so that he knows that the sale is from your tv spot.
Make sure the client answers his phone with his best salesman.
The best Advertising salesperson I ever worked with went in to the local stores and trained the person answering the phone, that way her clients were ready for the phone to ring and made the sale.
Ads take time, show the most beautiful picture of the product in action you can, people will buy up to a year later.

Post search says “under conscruction” at least for me, so I can’t direct you to other people that have had the same problem.
Good news if you “Never” have trouble recapturing data.
What version
of Vegas are you running, what deck to you use ?I’m not talking about just loading a tape and capturing the whole thing, I’m talking about defining clips, say 80 per tape, using Advanced capture.
Have you edited this way and then saved the veg. file to cd then re-loaded and then had no trouble ever re-capturing video timecode?
If you have, that will be helpful to know, maybe I can reinstall vegas or upgrade to 6,0 or somethingAlso Ed and gary responded to my first post in
June to say that
the work around for this problem
was to make a new clip with the same exact timecode and use the “replace clip” funtion in media pool.
To know what the exact timecode in and outs
were you have to write them all down by
hand ahead of time to refer back to.Nancy and others gave me the workaround to forget Vegas capture and just use scenalizer, but that program will not let you define clips with in and out points then remember the capture file
“Additude”? All day long, when I am looking at an edit software that ruins timecode on a feature film that I have been working on for almost 2 years, and the lady is really nasty, right off the bat
when I asked her why
she is being nasty, she gets nastier! I calmed her down and started over , repeating myself over and over so she could write the problem down, the call ended fine.
she promised to get back to me today, nothing yetthanks Greg

This may not be of any help , but
I recenty struggled with my son’s computer that was freezing at certian points. tried everything.
Last week I built a new internet computer and found I needed a graphic card, so I pulled the one out of my son’s computer. Everything worked fine until i went to windows update and downloaded an update to the graphics card.
Same crashes started happening! I used system restore to back up a day and then did not update the graphic card, computer runs perfectly now!Beware of windows update!
