  • Printing media pool clip timecode data-update

Just got off the phone with a very snotty tec lady from Sony.

Told her about Vegas 5.0d distroying timecode data upon re-capture of media clips. She Did the typical company thing and acted like she never heard about this problem before.

She told me she would have her developers try to reproduce the problem and get back to me.

Also she was positive that there is no way to print out, on paper, any data from the media pool involving clip timecode in and outs.

The re-capture problem means that you cannot really trust a project save, as once you loose your video files due to computer crashes or erasing the video off the drive, you will not be able to re-capture.

Crazy as the first avids and video machines re-captured perfectly all day long as a matter of course, due to the small drive size 10 years ago, you edited in a low resulution and recaptured, frame accurately, in full resulution for print to tape.

I can understand a deck not working properly, maybe dirty heads or something , but the software should not be changing your project timecode ever.

A little more information and a little less attitude might get some responses. For now, I have to side with the “snotty tech lady” because I have never experienced any timecode problems when recapturing data.

Post search says “under conscruction” at least for me, so I can’t direct you to other people that have had the same problem.

Good news if you “Never” have trouble recapturing data.
    What version
of Vegas are you running, what deck to you use ?

I’m not talking about just loading a tape and capturing the whole thing, I’m talking about defining clips, say 80 per tape, using Advanced capture.
Have you edited this way and then saved the veg. file to cd then re-loaded and then had no trouble ever re-capturing video timecode?
If you have, that will be helpful to know, maybe I can reinstall vegas or upgrade to 6,0 or something

Also Ed and gary responded to my first post in
    June to say that
the work around for this problem
was to make a new clip with the same exact timecode and use the “replace clip” funtion in media pool.
To know what the exact timecode in and outs
were you have to write them all down by
hand ahead of time to refer back to.

Nancy and others gave me the workaround to forget Vegas capture and just use scenalizer, but that program will not let you define clips with in and out points then remember the capture file

“Additude”? All day long, when I am looking at an edit software that ruins timecode on a feature film that I have been working on for almost 2 years, and the lady is really nasty, right off the bat
    when I asked her why
she is being nasty, she gets nastier! I calmed her down and started over , repeating myself over and over so she could write the problem down, the call ended fine.
she promised to get back to me today, nothing yet

    thanks Greg
