[david furst] “apparently a machine will allocate a fair amount of computer resources and processor to networking and network-related activities, doing things in the background even when you’re not actively surfing the net. this can lead to dropouts, clicks, pops, and other undesirable glitches. as a result, some manufacturers make machines without networking, or have it all turned off.”

That may have been the case in the past and I know some folks still swear by the idea of not having their edit systems connected to the internet but there’s also the option of being connected. I’ve always had my edit systems connected and it’s never been detrimental to my edit performance.

[david furst] “upgrading to one of adobe’s current cloud-based programmes isn’t an option, as my audio/video machine has no network, and never will.”

    Any particular reason why?

[Simon Ubsdell] “Not bitter, just disappointed.”

I would add too that I share the disappointment but also my 20 years of loyalty to the company, while serving me well for a majority of that time, more recently became a barrier to progress. This would only be different if I made my living solely within the Apple ecosphere but that’s simply not possible for many professionals.

To say that they’ve served the professional community well in recent years is to ignore the reality that they’ve morphed into a completely different company and the new iteration of Apple is holding professionals hostage to their vision and that is simply wrong.

I wish I still had Adobe CC 2015 to experiment.

I haven’t noticed this issue at all on my system or on any of the other edit systems that I’ve worked on.

Is it possible that it’s actually more of a GPU related issue and not a Premiere bug?

what drive is the media on? what is your media drive speed? Is your footage H264 or an edit friendly format?

A Lot of factors can contribute to slow playback.

Thanks for sharing. Not sure why you’re calling it the competition though. I’m always a fan of new tools that can make my workflow easier.
