I couldn’t get hold of a copy, but I did get Creative After Effects by Angie Taylor: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-After-Effects-Techniques-Animation/dp/0240519922/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1463033410&sr=8-2&keywords=Creative+After+effects

Neither deal exclusively with text effects, but give a good grounding in the concepts of animation, motion graphics, key framing and design.

I’m going to guess that he’s used CC Cylinder. The vortex has a sharp edge to it at the beginning and end. The distortion looks about right too.

I’m not sure what ‘3d circular outline masks’ are. Wouldn’t a 3D circle be a sphere 🙂

The device looks like a fairly basic box. Could you try recreating it with 3D layers, then have it move from the first position to the second while the background fades?

I think what will work for you is to put the text object as a child of your camera. Once you’ve got the text lined up to your liking, drag it into the camera in the object manager. Then when your camera moves, you text will move with it.

That’s brilliant. Thanks guys. I looked up if PE could export a AAF or EDL. Completely over-looked the possibility that it’s project file to import directly.

As I say, I use it as a guideline more than anything. I’ve just delivered (amatuer) shots that have been 10 seconds in length in the past and assumed they would be edited down, only to find they’ve been dropped in whole.

And I do that it’s all about the pacing, it’s just these days when setting up a comp in AE or C4D I try to keep it to 4-5 seconds. But, as posted, I couldn’t remember if I’d made this up or had read it somewhere.
