    That’s a really nice video you’ve done.

I’ve also downloaded those same panels and just lined them up in Photoshop to produce a massive PSD. The quality is really amazing.

I don’t think scale has any effect. I’ve never noticed any difference anyway. Sometimes, for camera angles and moving objects around, you’ll notice a if you’re using an extreme scale.

For my Earth, I plugged in the real dimensions, then divided by 100 (I think – my planet is ~4000m). This allowed me to put in the Moon and some other objects at the correct distance ratio.

    Xpresso can do this.

Add an Xpresso tag to one of your objects.
In the X Group window drag in the ’48’ object.
Click on the red corner and find the scale settings (Coordinates > Scale)
Drag in the other two objects. In their blue corners, click and add the same scale settings.
Anywhere on the XGroup ‘desktop’ right-click and choose New Node > Xpresso > Calculate > Formula.
On the new Formula node which will have appeared, click on the blue corner and choose Value.
In the attributes window, check the Use Portnames checkbox
In the Formula text field type the following:

    Value1*20/60

From the ’48’ object’s scale port (blue circle), drag a line to the Formula’s Value1 port.
From the Formula’s output port drag another line to the scale property of your smaller box.
Highlight and copy the Formula node.
Change the formula’s text to be

    Value1*30/60

Drag a line from the ’48’ object to this Formula’s value1 and connect up the output in the same way.

And that’s it. Your smaller object will retain the same scale relationship no matter what size you put in the largest object.

If any of this is unclear, I’m preparing a tutorial which partly deals with simple Xpresso set-ups like this. Stay tuned.

Think I’ve just solved my problem. I’ve been setting the video to output as progressive. In desperation I’ve just tried lower field first and the text has come out clear as day! I’m guessing the non-field screen-capture video was being screwed up somehow going through the progressive interpolation. Will try rendering the whole video and see if that works.

    Hi Tim,

Strange about the link, this is the relevant part:

    VIDEO FILE FORMAT:

    Recommended:
    30fps
    Quicktime Movie
    MPEG-4
    AAC MPEG4 Stereo 44.1Khz
    MPEG4 AAC-LC Audio Recommended
    Playable by QT

The video is 1280×800 and I’ve put it in a 1280×720 sequence without scaling. I just have it cropping off the bottom of the screen.

Oops, that was meant to say “without a reserve”. Serves me right for not checking before posting.

    Hi Jethro,

How come you’re selling this with a reserve? It seems to good to be true.

  • That’s fits with my current thinking. (easier to do by eye in After Effects than by some automated process in C4D).

    Thanks for the reply though

Sounds like you need to use ShadowCatcher. This tutorial should get you started.

I’d probably try using Particles and Pyrocluster. If you place the emitter inside your sphere then as the sphere moves it should leave a particle trail. Adjust the lifetime and look of the particles should get you the look of a lighttrail you’re after
