By default it’s opens as Mode: Grid array, and as a result it doesn’t have a single value for count. When I change Generate to thinking Particles, what should I set the Mode to?

Thanks. I’ve managed to due the large prominences manually, but would have preferred an automated solution. I’m thinking of increasing the brightness post-render to enhance it a bit more.

Thanks, I knew I’d seen it somewhere.

After posting, I spent a bit more time in C4D and got quite a good result, although I’m still adjusting the timing for the animation.

I’d love some advice on how to improvement it if anyone has any. I’ve been able to get part of the look using a formula-distortiing sphere with scaled-up Sema noise pattern on the alpha channel.

I’d guess French is the primary language on the DVD. In which case, there’s probably other VOB files on the DVD which contain the other languages.

Check out the mosaic filter. If you import an image of something in nature and then apply mosaic, you should be abe to adjust the squares into a random pattern of different colours.

I’ve always worked on laptops with AE and sometimes wish I had a desktop. I used to have a beast of an HP Pavillion laptop which weighed about the same as a desktop and the performance matched a colleague’s dual-core.

When it died, I got an ASUS N80V and until I upgraded the software to Win7 64bit and AE CS5 it really, really struggled with AE. I frequently had crashes when running XP, 3GB RAM and AE CS3. The laptop has an NVidia GeForce 9300 and I had to disable OpenGL to get any sort of stability. Almost every time I rendered, I would have to save, shut down AE, reopen it and then render.

But like I said, since upgrading to CS5 and Win7 64bit, everything seems better. I also have to use a laptop. My only suggestion would be to check out the laptops sold as gaming machines, at least they’ll have a top-spec graphics card.

Totally agree with Dave’s other points, ad I’d also add in a second monitor. I missed my larger screen resolution and when I added a second monitor at my desk it did help organise my screen space. Of course, you miss it all the more when you’re away from it 🙂

You might also consider using a stills camera for this shot. That would allow you to both lock it off and then add camera movement afterwards as the image you’ll be working on will be soooo much bigger.

This could work, although I was surprised at how easy to was to do manually. The hard part was picking the point where the wall starts, but once you make the decision, I think your brain steps in and fills in the rest.
