This sounds cool and I’ve never had an opportunity to do this myself, but if I did, I’d opt for Way 1. Then once I was happy with the animation, I’d create a comp for Side A’s dimensions, and add my animation comp to this and move it so that the far left of the animation is lined up with the left of the Side A comp.

Once I was happy, I’d repeat the process for Side B, but the time position the nested comp -4032 pixels to the left. And repeat this for the final two comps.

This method gives me flexibility, as if I need to amend my animation, I only have to change the original (and re-render) and I’m not having to copy key frames etc…

I’ve done similar before, using a webpage on the local computer, with the looping video embedded and then displaying weather info from a web service. Depending on designs, traditional frames or iframes will be a simple solution.

You can make layers into 2.5D layers and arrange them in 3D space. You can also create cameras and lights. And you can create 3D models in Cinema4D Lite. What you can do is take an illustrator file and give it depth, or rather you can but you’ll have to buy additional software*.

* Technically the Shatter plugin with forces set to 0 will give layers depth.

Hold key frames are correct for source text, if you think about it. (What’s half way between A and B? for instance)

I think if I was doing this, I’d probably use three separate text layers and keyframe the scaling, rather than spend ages trying to force a single text layer to conform.

Not had this one myself.

Are these fonts In all these fans installed on your computers or are they downloaded via the Adobe fonts thing?

If it’s that they’re installed on your computers, I’m wondering if it could it be that you’ve got different versions of the same font. It might be worth deleting those fonts from the Font folder and then reinstalling them on both computers and then that way you know you’ve definitely got the same version.

If it’s Adobe Fonts, maybe it’s not connecting to the Internet just at the moment when you’re opening up the project file?? That’s my best guess and I’m sorry if this doesn’t help.

I’ve not seen that tutorial through before but skipping through it it looks like everything is based on the positions of those corner nulls. And you’re saying that when you try to move them, they keep springing back which makes me think that there is probably an expression or a keyframe somewhere on the nulls’ positions which is setting them to the original place.

Have I understood correctly? Could you tell me how far through the tutorial you’ve got? It might be easier to work out what’s going wrong.

I take it the tunnel can’t be set to cast a shadow too? And you can’t fake the shadow using a copy of the object, tinted black and angled?

In which case, I’d be tempted to create a second, copied layer for where the shadows going to fall on. And then mask this layer to match those parts where you don’t want your shadow to fall. Then set this masked layer to not accept shadows in the solid settings.

If you have the money then Trapcode Particular or Wondertouch’s Particle Illusion can do this. However, you should be able to get similar results for free using CC Particle World.

Just a couple of thoughts… does this have to be a perfect rotoscope (I.e. for a drama) or would a blurry box be sufficient (I.e. interview). If it’s the latter keyframed masks take a lot less effort), if it’s the former could you wait until the edit and only work on the actual shots?

Yeah, Tero means the emitter’s position. Not sure which particle system you’re using, but the emitter will have position coordinates available to set. Looks like you do have position data from your grid layer (although that might be a static position if you’ve used camera tracking). You just need to copy this data to your particle emitter’s position.
