3D After effects
I know this is gonna sound silly but is there a way to make a 3D animated short on After effects with the help is illustrator and photoshop I have the story just need some pointers and all

You can make layers into 2.5D layers and arrange them in 3D space. You can also create cameras and lights. And you can create 3D models in Cinema4D Lite. What you can do is take an illustrator file and give it depth, or rather you can but you’ll have to buy additional software*.
* Technically the Shatter plugin with forces set to 0 will give layers depth.
