  • [Heidi Huff] “Is there any kind of effect I can do to crush those black and whites on Pro 15?”

Sure. Have a go with FX Levels or Colour Curves FX.

  • Hi Brandon here’s your file: 13478_desktop2019.06.3001.08.18.01.mp4.zip

Sorry, Brandon, I can’t repro your issue in my Build of VP14. I’ve added Media and there aren’t any END Fades. I looked to see if there were/are any Preferences for doing this? Couldn’t find any.

Maybe time to update your Build or a Factory Reset?

  • [Heidi Huff] “I recently upgraded to Vegas Pro 15, and I noticed the preview of my video in 15 was different than in Movie Studio 11.”

Hi Heidi! – Yes, I did read your thread in MAGIX VP Forum. What you read there is correct. However I was hoping the main “issue” would have been mentioned, and that is just “how” the Video Signal is Previewed in the Professional package that we know as Vegas Professional – or VP. It took me the best part of five years until the penny dropped. Vegas Pro will go out of its way to deliver the the naked, as it was captured Media, and here that’s your Video. It wont do anything to affect that signal, unless the Editor WANTS to do it. So, I don’t know just how VMS11 adjusts or even if it doesn’t adjust or deals with the video signal, but in VP there is much to be aware of.

OK, I’ve taken a screengrabs of both your samples, placed them in VP15 and I can SEE in the scopes the way both samples had been “adjusted” in Preview. Notwithstanding the rough way I captured your samples, if I had your original internally Captured snapshots from each to play with it would be better, but you’ll get the picture or rather the Preview ????.

    Here’s your S11:

I can clearly see the “crushed” Blacks and a tiny amount of “clipped” Whites. And here I magnified the Blacks going out of value:

    And now VP15:

You can clearly see that the Video Signal has been better presented to the Viewer – you and me – to reveal ALL the Video information, little if no “crushed” Blacks and no “clipped” Whites.

So, where does this leave us? More to the point, would you/me wished to see exactly what is there, in the Media, in Preview? Or some already affected Media that there maybe no way back from? Tris could be “seeing”in Preview Clipped (overexposed footage) or Graphics that aren’t behaving themselves? Mixing full spectrum 0 to 255 Graphics and Captured footage? – I know what I would want! I want to see exactly what I have, GOOD as well as BAD, and then make an Edit decisions based on the Scopes and Numbers. And that, right there, is what you get with Vegas Professional – a deeply Professional view INTO our Media. Now, you saying you prefer the look of the dark and contrasty LOOK and me saying that they are CRUSHED Blacks, is only a personal view on the OUTCOME of the Video Signal.

I know, there’s much to take in, but I really hope some of this has raised the veil away from understanding the difference between what we SEE in Preview and just HOW that Preview is being presented to us.

Lastly here’s a link that will add more understanding to this Previewing thing. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/pc-to-tv-levels-a-comedy-of-errors–107325/

[Bill Jackson] “is there a way to enable a drop shadow on the PiP”

Hi Bill! You’re asking a question specifically related to Movie Studio Plat 16 . Might I suggest you check out MAGIX’s dedicated Movie Studio Plat? It’s here. Apart from having your VMSP answered, you’ll get to find out a lot more about your investment! ????

  • [Brandon French] “Hopefully, there’s a video attached showing this.”

Hi Brandon! No, your sample isn’t showing here. Go to your COW attachments and copy and paste into this thread. The COW doesn’t link automatically, we have to do it manually.

  • [Jamie Watts] “Still no luck, I’m afraid.”

Hi, there’s something truly choking Vegas. Whether space or working on one Disc or whether that other disc is or isn’t getting in the way, there’s something seriously wrong. Be assured that I don’t get this happening, but I’m at a loss to come back with a solution.

Can you try changing Preview Quality to Draft? You have it on Best. Does this make a difference?

  • [Jamie Watts] “I downloaded VLC Player and converted one of my video clips into a new MP4. Still no luck, I’m afraid.”

Hi Jamie. Then you can replicate the issue with a differently rendered Source Media. This is a good thing, ‘cos implies that the settings in Vegas aren’t good, and we bneed to do some more detective work.

OK, I need more info. Your Preview Window isn’t providing all that it could. See the “Hamburger” here:

Click on it and select ALL the options. It will reveal a stack more of useful info an valuable tools. Once you’ve achieved that do another ScreenGrab and post it here.
