  • [MIke Francis] “I do long meetings and Vegas 14 is crashing all the time during render unless the project is under 1/2 hr……. Vegas 13 on the same computer is fine. “

Are you rendering to the same Hard Drive for VP14 and VP13?

Not at PC, but from memory I’ll have a go:

1 Open Previous: In Preferences. Not removed.

    2. Toolbar > View

    3. Preferences > Video tabIt seems that Vegas is only using 200 mgs for Dynamic Ram Preview. What is that?

    4. This is a tougher discussion. It depends on your GPU and your CPU; what you want to make faster: Previewing?; Rendering? BTW 16gbs is pretty standard almost to low on rigs nowadays. Being crash prone is another conversation.

    5. Yeah, try the Dropdown again and Select All. It’s a bit odd. Maybe open and close Vegas a couple of times and reboot PC to get system and Vegas bedded-in

    Hope that helps?

[Rob Lindsay] “Any help in getting it back up is appreciated!”

I would rename the troubled VEG as a Test, something like TEST.veg and attempt to open it.

Do you know the size of the JPEGs? Something is choking Vegas from opening. If the project Opens without the JPEGs then we have reasonable proof that the stills are responsible. The test I would try, with the TEST.veg would be to temporarily remove the JPEGs from the TEST.veg by locating them in Windows Explorer and renaming them. If the TEST.veg opens but complains that it can’t find the JPEGs then have VP ignore them, allow VP to open and when open get busy with the rest of the project to truly confirm that there isn’t anything choking VP.

This type of CSI/Forensic process can being very helpful in understanding just what and when VP chokes.

January 28, 2017 at 4:20 am in reply to: Vegas Pro Thumbnail Crashes?

Hi Jason, track down just where your Vegas Thumbnail are stored and temporarily rename that folder to something like ProjectThumnails OLD. I had a similar issue recently and once I did this AND the Thumnail library was rebuilt – if you hold the Folder open you can actually see the refreshed Thumbnails being created – I could again see all my Media Thumbnails. I also did this for Vegas Explorer too. I’m guessing that the Thumbnail database got corrupted and needed to be rebuilt.

Once all is fine you can delete that OLD folder. If some Thumnails were missed, due to another Project it’ll just stake a bit more time rebuilding on opening.

Why are you rendering full HD to HDV? From your view-flow you’re going out to HD?

That being said, your asking your processor to do the math to get you HDV.

Hi John. You certainly have enough muscle in your rig. Have you tried disabling GPU acceleration? What Preview quality are you running? Does your Project Settings exactly match your Event Media? Have you got any other VFX applied?

Bottom line, I can use Saphire Edge Shake with no issue. Let’s see if we can nail this irksome critter.

    NESTED VEGGIES.

1/- Copy and Paste into a NEW Veg.

    2/- Save NEW Veg.

3/- Import NEW Veg into existing OLD Veg. This is a Nested Veg.

4/- Apply any method to increase velocity.

Done! Should take , ooo, no more than 2 minutes.

Nested Veggies makes Cabbages out of tasks.

  • Good Jason! Make sure that the Logo is positioned correctly as wished. That being said, you should be home and dry.

  • [Paul Berk] “You’ll want to have that other party send you a file to test. Likely it would be MOV or AVI”

Paul, you’re correct. I was thinking the same. However, something that the other party is not presently offering. Also, MOV and AVI can preserve the Alpha but it has to be able to. I’ve done the MUTTLEY thing very successfully. I’ve also used the LAGARITH CODEC. Within VP I’ve also successfully used MOV Animation too.

Now, what I would think this animator may very well be capable of providing is a series of PNGs. PNGs can preserve the ALPHA channel. These could then be imported as a series of stills into VP. Now, the other “wrinkle” that needs to be ironed-out is where in the lower third this Logo needs to be viewed. If the video format is HD 1960×1080 then the PNG needs to have the Logo positioned already in the HD plate. If it isn’t, then our chum here will need to further manipulate it so that it is. Now we get onto the possible reduction of resolution, though in itself may NOT be an issue, but depending on the complexity and quality of the LOGO is worth flagging-up now.

Lots to consider here. Sharing samples and clear communications will need to be had! Oh yes ….
