If exporting self contained takes that long (it shouldn’t) then exporting via compressor will take longer, as it’s doing more – a lot more. If your timeline is rendered, exporting using File -> Export -> Quicktime movie… current settings, self contained, should take minutes. Take that movie by hand to compressor. The direct export to compressor route is not and never has been reliable.

Yes, the split-screen comparison is ghastly. Who-ever produced that isn’t giving either camera a fair shoot. It’s hard to figure out if the split screen is mis-labled, or just botched, as it doesn’t show what the voiceover is talking about. There are plenty of ways to demonstrate the difference of HDV and DVCproHD, but you can’t stand there and complain about MPEG2 on a DVD encoded with, guess what, MPEG2!!!!

No camera manufacturer puts out footage before the camera goes on sale. I did, however see some HVX200 footage today, but it was just shot in the conference room where the Panasonic people were learning about the camera, and the footage was about the size of a postage stamp in an avid window on a laptop 🙁 But I guess we’ll be seeing footage very soon now. Now, some people have seen early footage, and although it was not of anything interesting, they did seem to think it didn’t have any obvious nasties… It’s probably only a matter of weeks now before we can actually get our hand on one of these and see what it’s like.

I think he’s asking about lack of support of the DVCproHD1080i50 codec as used by the HVX400 in Europe?

It’s nominally 4:2:2, but I don’t know of anyone who’s done a test to confirm that. Uncompressed HD is 1920×1080, and the Z1 doesn’t really have enough definition for it’s 1440×1080, and some of that is down to the lens and some down to how it’s 960×1080 chips are working, and some is the interlace factor, so although the signal coming out could well represent a 1920×1080 image, it will not have the precise definition of a 1920×1080 image that comes uncompressed off the SDI outputs of a CineAlta. However, it should be a lot better for keying than the signal from the HDV compression. Even HDCAM is not easy to key with…..

Yes it will, as long as the region coding does not interfere. If it’s a burned disc, then I’d say you’re A-OK fine.

Yes, but you’ve got to go into it and set everything to best or nearly best quality or the results don’t look too good, and it’s the high quality modes that make for the astronomic render times.
