    Hi there,
does anyone know why FCP supports 1080 in interlaced material but only 720 in progressive? What I would like is DVC Pro HD with 1080 in 25fps. Am I missing something?
    Thanks,
    Hans

1080i50 is an interlaced format, even 1080 24psf plays back as interlaced ( at 48i) on all but a very few highend displays.
Sony uses PSF or Progressive Segmented Frames for its content that is not 4:4:4.

IT’s not an FCP thing, it’s a sony thing.

I think he’s asking about lack of support of the DVCproHD1080i50 codec as used by the HVX400 in Europe?

    Hi again,
thanks for the response. I took the 1080 as a higher quality format than the 720 for progressive scan. But maybe I’m mistaken there and it’s a question of my not understanding the concepts completely. I guess there simply is no 1080 in progressive?

Sorry, I think it’s the 720p25 that’s not supported by FCP. FCP does support 1080i50, which embeds 1080p25 just fine – there’s no real difference other than how they look, just like you can broadcast 576p25 on in 576i50 PAL.

You can capture 25 via the AJA Kona 2 though of course, you’re going HD-SDI and we all know how that doesn’t work correctly with FCP 5.0. We actually shot a short film using 25fps as part of our workflow.

Thanks Walter – I should have said 720p25 DVCproHD native, is not FCP supported, whereas uncompressed, or photoJPEG etc. 720p25 input via SDI is!
