Vegas is inherently RGB I think. FCP mucks up the gamma exporting from YCbCr to RGB. If Vegas does a better conversion of RGB to YCbCr than FCP does YCbCr to RGB, then you’ll be better off letting Vegas do it’s stuff. Due to the silly gamma correction FCP applies on video decode to RGB, video will probably look darker and more accurate in Vegas.

You’d get a gamma shift doing that David, and an unwanted YCbCr to RGB transform. You should be able to put the Media100 codec on the mac with the HD files, or use something like PhotoJPEG75% to do the transfer if uncompressed is too big.

That can’t be the case. I’ve been sent m2t files from the Canon in 24f mode, captured over firewire.

Don’t scale the video. This is bad for quality. You put 2 black lines at the top and 4 black lines at the bottom. An SDI card will do this automatically on playout of 720×480 media.

If the video is now at 29.97fps you should use Cinema Tools to conform it to 23.98fps. If you don’t see any interlace artifacts, then you can be sure that both fields are infact representing a progressive frame, and you’re fine. Progressive video is “embedded” into interlaced video like this quite frequently, and when it’s in the computer, it’s treated as progressive and looks progressive.

If both fields are from the same instant in time, I don’t think you need a deinterlacer.
