It’s MPEG2, but not like HDV – it is VBR rather than CBR and has a max of 35mb/s rather than a constant 25mb/s. However it used uncompressed audio, so I don’t know if that impacts on the 35mb/s bit rate or not.
That said, if you don’t like long GOP acquisition formats, XDCAM HD is not for you.

If you’re bumping up to digibeta, G Nicer works great, but you’ve got to do direct from the uncompressed timeline to Digibeta as that trip to DVCAM will undo the good work the plugin and uncompressed have done for you!

If you’re outputting to DVCAM you’re wasting your time. That will undo any good work you do in FCP. You need to therefore address point 1) above.

If you play out a 720×480 video stream over your Decklink card over SDI, it will add in those lines for you. No need to worry about that.
As for helping with title quality:
1) if you titles look bad in the DV codec, they’ll look bad when tranmitted over NTSC, which does nastier things to titles than the DV codec ever did – you need to re-design those titles!
2) only if you’re mastering to a better format, say digibeta (taking into account 1 above)

I guess we all think APple should better document and support this codec in FCP. I’ll check out the 100% RGB version for clipping and get back to you.

Timeline field order none only effects the animations you do in FCP using the motion tab. Both DV and SD are lower, but if you embed the 720×480 in a 720×486 timeline, there can be field order issues depending on which pixels are left blank at top and bottom.
