Hi Chris,
Well y’see, you have two boxes on your desk. That’s precisely what I didn’t want and that’s why I like the Tascam. If you’re happy though that’s all I care about!

Yep, I’m getting quite used to it now.

Well Chris, with regard to the Tascam, if you have one it’s best that you try to get it working first and then ask me specifically what to do if you encounter problems. Suffice it to say for now that you should make sure you have the latest software (1.5) AND FIRMWARE – both of which are downloadable from the Tascam site.
AS to STPro my main concern is that when you send a clip to STP for (say) cleaning up or getting rid of clicks etc., then when you try to send it back to FCP, it wont go back – probably because it has remedied the entire take, when all you wanted was the bit you used. In fact sometimes STP wont save the item you’ve cured, because it is too long. However, I’m sure you’ll find more specific problems on the STP Cow site.

June 12, 2005 at 1:49 pm in reply to: Clean Install of Tiger & Final Cut Studio – I wish I hadn’t !Well, after a few days of trauma, I’m now working again – thanks to you and the other fine folk who helped me through my clean start nightmares.
You were quite correct about installing FCP5 while registering under the number of FCP3 (my original purchase), ignoring the other upgrade stages (FCP4 & FCP4.5 completely).
Now that I know, it makes complete sense to me and I feel kind of stupid not realizing it in the first place. However, there are a number of people I’ve spoken to who didn’t realize that your suggestion is the way to go – so maybe this discussion will continue to help people avoid my nightmare as they upgrade.
One thing though – I tried the “Open the Terminal from Applications > Utilities; type: “sudo update_prebinding -root / -force”. The computer just laughed at me, it gave me three lines of kindof jokey text and didn’t go through any cleansing process. Ah well, never mind, I’m up and running again and I am happy. Many thanks.

I have even been back to a clean install of Panther – with the same result by the way, that is, everything opens at normal quick speed we have all come to know and love – everything except for FCP – any version of FCP! It’s still as slow as treacle on either Panther or Tiger.Currently I’m doing a clean install of Tiger – again – and then I will install FCP 5 (using the numbers as required – an excellent time-saving tip by the way, thank you) and I will report progress as and when I get some.
Wish me luck.

I have mine connected to a Mac Mini, connected to my network. “……. This set up sounds great. So help me here ….. You can author your DVD and work in DVDSP on the G5 … and then send the project through the MacMini without tying up the G5 ? And wile the DVD’s are burning you can continue to work on the G5 ?
Yep – that’s exactly right. Via the software that comes with the Bravo 2, I make an disk image of the completed DVD project, using iDVD or DVDSP – that goes onto my RAID along with the label which I author (on either computer) in Discus then make a bmp file of that which I size in Photoshop.
Then the Bravo 2 selects both the Photoshop file and the disk image, then one-by-one the robot arm of the Bravo 2 takes a disk from the right hand hopper of 25 blank disks, writes the program on the disk, writes the label on the same disk and drops it into the left hand hopper – then it moves on to the next disk. I choose quality and not speed (for obvious reasons) and – touch wood – I haven’t had one disk failure yet.
Meanwhile, I carry on working in FCP or whatever, on the G5, safe in the knowledge that my mini factory is slowly churning out DVD’s,completely unattended.

I want to throw in my vote for the Primera Bravo 2. I have one and it’s like the Energizer bunny – it goes and goes producing and labeling DVD’s. There’s a thrill when you wake up in the morning and find that you have a bunch of completed, labeled discs ready for you, all made while you were sleeping.

I can’t remember having a dud disc as yet.Godfrey Pye

This question fascinates me as I am an editor working with the Final Cut 5 Suite and am not really interested in recording/mixing music per se. Just like most people in this forum I guess, I am looking for exactly the same as Rob asks in his original question.
I was thinking about the Mackie Control Surface Universal until I learned that I would need to keep my current Mackie 140Z-VLZ mixer.
Then the Tascam FW-1082 appeared on the scene and it seems that I could lose the Mackie Mixer and use the Tascam solely for all my mixing needs. This is what I think I want but Is this how others understand it?
However, I read from VideoMan that there could be a complication with my Kona 2, is this true?
