I have a Tascam FW-1082 and am quite happy with it as a control surface for both FCP5 and Soundtrck Pro.

Ah that’s OK then – I understand all. Thanks a lot Walter you’ve made a happy man very old.

Well the Compressor tip sounds good in prospect but – I can’t find anything at all about Compressor or about 5.1 in any of the Final Cut Suite manuals.
I’ve never even opened Compressor simply because of an apparent lack of documentation – or am I being particularly stupid?
Would you please tell me in precisely which book I’ll find this Chapter 7?
    Many thanks,

Thanks guys, in the end I went with Matthew’s Eureka plug-ins.
I am too lazy/in too much of a hurry for the two DIY options suggested – and I couldn’t find Andy’s suggestion that would work with FCP.
    Thanks again.

Duncan and Andy, thank you very much for your tips and encouragement. Incidentally, I didn’t know that 16:9 was the regular UK aspect ratio these days (I’ve been away from that sceptered isle for 15 years).
In fact this job is going to Italy and the PAL part of the middle east, but your encouragement is greatly appreciated. It does no harm to be prepared and now I feel I’m ready to rock.

If you are interested, they certainly work on the Tascam FW-1082, another excellent surface.

It sounds like you have a similar set up to me (except I have Kona 2). The obvious question is – does the Firewire light on the 1082 light-up?
If not, there’s your problem. If it’s lit-up you should be in business, provided your settings are correct and since Tony (in the same Cow thread) has offered to write a ‘how-to-set-up-your-FCP5-for-Tascam’ I should get on to him. He’s very patient and kind and he sorted me out in no time at all.

Good luck – don’t give up, you’ll be glad you didn’t.

That’ll work too. It’s too complicated for me, it would make my eyes water but good luck with it.

I believe so but I think it’s a lot more expensiv than Tascam.

Kevin, in my heart I know you’re right but I’m dealing with material that was captured and cut by others, then handed to me for re-editing. “It’s not funny enough – make it funny” was the brief. So not a perfect world.

I do think / hope that those lovely people at Apple will be looking into the STP situation at the next revision.

The main point of my post was though that the Tascam is cool and it may provoke other editors to take the plunge through to the Control Surface.
