I went back to the Camera Archive through the Finder and returned the clips back to their original names, as shown in the import window. The clips then imported fine.

Merely stating the facts:
CUPERTINO, California—January 24, 2012—Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2012 first quarter which spanned 14 weeks and ended December 31, 2011. The Company posted record quarterly revenue of $46.33 billion and record quarterly net profit of $13.06 billion, or $13.87 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $26.74 billion and net quarterly profit of $6 billion, or $6.43 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 44.7 percent compared to 38.5 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 58 percent of the quarter’s revenue.
Fanboy or not, regardless of your thoughts on the company and its products, the fact is that Apple at the moment is hugely successful. From the Tech Crunch article: “At over $400 billion, Apple is now worth more than Greece, CNN Tech says.”

It’s anybody’s guess, however dropping DVD Studio Pro is a strong hint as to the direction Apple is taking with FCP X. You could always try to “Provide Feedback” to Apple from within FCP X.

The markers in Final Cut Pro X are not Chapter markers. Chapter markers have to be added in Compressor 4.
From FCP X Help:
Markers are reference points you can place within clips to locate, identify, and annotate specific frames. In editing, markers are particularly useful for synchronizing two or more clips at a specific point. For example, you can use a marker to label the frame where a door slams and then snap a sound effect to that marker. You can use markers to flag a specific location in a clip with editing notes or other descriptive information. You can also use markers for task management. Markers are classified as informational (blue markers), to-do items (red markers), and completed to-do items (green markers).From Compressor 4 Help:
Chapter markers: Chapter markers allow easy access to index points throughout a DVD, QuickTime movie, or podcast. QuickTime Player can interpret any text track containing time stamps as a chapter track. Chapter markers can also have artwork and a URL assigned to them that appear when playing a podcast.
These markers appear as purple in the Preview window timeline. -
It would appear that this Antarctica Video was edited in iMovie, based on the opening graphics which are part of the iMovie package – not FCP X.

Interesting. I haven’t tried HDV ingest through FCP X yet. I understand that HDV ingest creates files at camera stop points, rather than Batch capture of logged In & Out points. Then again, we can creat multiple Ins and Outs on a file by creating Favorites. I’ll have to give it a try.

If the plugin doesn’t work, perhaps the easy solution would be to continue to use FCP 7 to ingest the files, then import from the hard drive location. I have a Z5U, and use FCP 7 to Log & Capture HDV tape. The files import nicely, although you don’t get all data such as Reel Name.
