    Thanks Adam, that did it.
Tried it before but after tweaking some parameters I got a reasonable result.

Thanks Brian, that solved the problem.
Had been looking after that files/folders, but couldn’t find something called userlib.
    Guess I overlooked it.

    You made me happy.

    I don’t think so, Adam.
Besides, the two objects shared the same coordinate system and only the animated one disappears.
I can’t check your suggestion, because I’ve changed the setup, and can’t reproduce the situation.
Anyway . . . the problem is solved using the merge cmd.

Going to study that Xref-thing, but in the meantime found a solution.
Merging it into the model did the job.

Yes, Michael, I looked at that option too, but couldn’t get it working.
Found the solution in a cylindrical transparency mapping with the use of a gradient.
I had to skip the displacement map (which gave unwanted results with a cylindrical map) and pulled and pushed some poly’s instead to get a similar result.

Thanks Greg, guess I have to study alpha-channels then; never really used them.
but still I hoped that there would be a real 3D solution with the transparency being a function of the material thickness, also for other situations.

In my case there is an animated (cubic) displacement map in the white material also; might make the alpha-channel option more complicated. I’ll find out.

    No, Adam no hidden layer.
Someone at C4D café helped me out; “front” meant that it was a background image in the “front” viewport.
Didn’t even know about the possibility; must have dropped it in by accident.

  • Problem Solved:

In the texturetag window I had set the “side” value to “front”.
Changing this setting to “both” made the effect show up, I don’t know why, but it works.

March 7, 2011 at 4:35 pm in reply to: Timeline problem

    Thanks Adam,

Just before your reaction I found out that indeed I had to turn on Automatic Mode and turn off Show Animation, because I prefer to have the same structure in the right column of the Timeline as in the OM.

The problem occurred, because I probably chose “Show tracks” with a right click on one of the objects in the OM; after that the Timeline turns empty and Automatic Mode is turned off.
Anyway, I’m on track again. The benefit of having the option to choose the same commands on different places within C4D (with sometimes slightly different results) turns into a little nightmare for a beginner.

    Think I posted twice, sorry.
I think I try to get used to two timeline windows, after installing second monitor
Spent rest of the day searching for the adapter to connect one to my iMac.
    It must be somewhere . . . . .
