Rob I don’t think there is a way with Text & Title or Legacy Text. You probably need to use some like ProType Titler or maybe NewBlue.

February 19, 2019 at 4:38 pm in reply to: Rendered video darker than preview

    Hi Ryan,

I think Ole is providing some great guidance. Without reading the link he provided, I hope I am not contradicting….

First, keep with the 8 bit. Your source media is most likely 4:2:0 8 bit, therefore any other pixel format such as 32 bit float is not going to offer any improvement, rather require additional processing power and jumping through unecsesary hoops. If your source media is 4:2:2 10 bit, that is a different story.

I would suggest downloading and installing SeMW, install, then load the option window under ‘Tools’ > ‘Extensions’ make sure the ‘Preview Levels’ is checked. Then go to the Preview display. At the top will be an option ‘Original’ with a down arrow. Click on that and select ‘PC’. This will only effect the Preview display. Set your color corrections (using scopes is the best) to suit your taste, then render your file. Setting the Preview to ‘PC’ levels using this SeMW feature will not effect your rendered file. Then see how you like the VLC playback and Youtube playback. SeMW can be downloaded from here: https://www.semw-software.com/en/extensions/

Keep in mind that every video that is uploaded to Youtube goes through a conversion process, which Youtube has been known to change occasionally. Also, desktop players such as VLC can be changed to suit your taste.

There is no option when rendering to change the brightness or contrast, you get what you get from each render format dependent on the codec used in that format.

Also, to my knowledge, there is no magic bullet button that allows us to out think the NLE processing procedures and results. We can change them but we have to invest the time to determine what each change does so we can make the changes we prefer to get the results we are happy with.

February 18, 2019 at 7:58 pm in reply to: Problem importing MP4s – system not on internet

    HI John,

As you know it is pretty tough trying to run down an error code that you can not show us. So, hopefully you can get them to load that mp4 again, and write down the error code along with any additional information that Vegas may offer when that code pops up.

I’ve never seen it in any version of Vegas for importing an mp4, although Vegas may not have the codec required by that file type. In that event it wants to connect with Magix to authorize the codec, which may be on the system, but requires a one-time connection to Magix to license the codec.

I think what would be ideal is if you can get the computer back outside, along with their source media, put a temp internet connection and see if Magix will do it’s magic to the error could by connecting home. If this works, remove the temp internet connection and return to user, it will not need to connect again in the future.

    Hi Scott,

I agree with Ole, would appear your graphics cards ran out of juice with only 2gb ram for the changes you made in the color tab. If this is the first 4K you have made these type of changes to, it would make sense. If you have been successful at this before, you may want to check if Windows perhaps updated your GPU driver, of course you are on Windows 10, correct.

  • Thank You Michael for the reply. I wish at least one of my ideas would have made an improvement. You certainly have jumped through hoops on this project. If I think of anything else I will reply, as for now….well, I’m flat out of any other thoughts. Best of Luck.

  • Hi Michael,

My last number 2 would probably be rather long with absolutely no geuarntee of success.

However I have another that would be much quicker to test, if you think it would work.

You state you still photographs in this project are high quality. Are they also higher resolution than 1080 HD? If they have enough resolution for 2K or even 4K. I would take the short section that shows the most problems, render it out to 4K, then upload that to Youtube and see if anything improves for the HD and 4K versions.

The only reason I suggest this is, Youtube does tricky conversions and from time to time it is difficult for anyone to hack their process and know exactly what they have changed and when. But they used to handle 4K stuff different than HD. Making the changes in your Project and your render from HD to 4K should take about 1 minute and rendering out a 2 minute region and posting it shouldn’t take that long. Again, no warranty with this idea, it may not be worth any more than you paid for it!!! I feel you are getting tired and I would be also, perhaps Vimeo is your best alternative at this point.

  • Hi Michael, I was out of town yesterday and this morning, and it looks like Dimitrios has helped a lot with your project. I have just a couple more suggestions.

    1. As for not wanting to mess up your project trying different Fx’s, etc., you can load up your project and before you do anything, save it to a different name with maybe the suffix ‘Test’. I have done this many times when I wanted to try something. Some of the things I tried didn’t work and my project got way out of wack. I just deleted the project that project .veg file with the ‘Test’ suffix, then the only thing I have lost is the time investment. Often I have come out something good and then keep the Project .veg file.

    2. If bandwidth is not an issue with you, I would try rendering your project in the appropriate Sony XAVC Intra format template, or under Video for Windows format., select Sony 10 bit YUV which will render a lossless file in the ‘.avi’ container. Then feed those into Handbrake and try it’s x265 codec in high quality. The end result will make an overkill quality physically large file, but YouTube may not destroy it as bad during their tricky conversion as much as they do to an h.264 mp4. It may take a bit of tinkering trial and error to get the best render out of Handbrake, but if you want to pursue this, I would do a bit of the tinkering and provide some steps to help get past the Handbrake learning curve with some step by steps. If you can come up with something, we can set it up so in the future it will be a very painless 2 click process to render it out of Vegas Pro 13 using a frameserver script. Which would be worth it if you were going to make similar films in the future, otherwise setting up the framesever part would be waste.

Thank You Guillaume for providing the ffmpeg command line, simple and effective, I hope this helps Mitchell meet his deadline.

  • increase the project properties and render template from 29.970 fps to 59.940 fps. In event properties (in the timeline) select ‘Disable Resample’, in your Project properties change the Field Order to ‘None (progressive scan) to match that in your render template, then bump up the max and average bite rate in your Render Template to about twice what you have it, see if any of that will improve it.
