Alberto, can you upload a sample clip from your Hero 7. Something like 2-3 seconds to keep the file size down should be adequate.
As far as I know the footage from the Hero 7 HEVC to DNx would have to be converted, so the time and process of converting the source media is a concern to get the fastest and easiest method in batch mode.
In the past I have used Vegas and Resolve to batch convert source media to DNx, but there are other programs that probably can do it. I’m thinking maybe something like ER Media Tool Kit. If you want to upload a short clip I can tinker around trying different methods.
Also Ole may have some suggestions.
By the way, Avid DNx codec requires Quicktime qt7plug.dll, which is an unsupported 32 bit program that Apple does not support in Windows. One of the long standing issues with DNx is the limitation to load more than about 40 clips in the timeline when Vegas will normally fail. So if we keep the number of unique clips in a project at about 40 or below, no problem. If we load more than 40, sometimes 41, 42, 45, 47, etc. then Vegas will most likely fail and either lock-up, hang and/or crash.

When you change the track viewing area with Track Motion, that will change the dimenisions of the text characters, but depending on the Text Generated Media, we can adjust that. Good Luck with your current results and your client. If you need more work on it, we can proabably find the solution.

Alberto, how many unique clips from the Hero 7, that you place in the Project Media bin, will you be adding to the timeline for this project? 5, 10, 20, 40, 60, etc?

Rob, try this as a quick test. Use ‘Track Motion’ on the track you have the text and set it to 1080×1080 similar to how you set the Pan & Crop, don’t forget to switch off the ‘Lock Aspect Ratio’ icon at the top (2 XX’s with a lock graphic). That should bring the text into the correct screen size ratio. If that works, the text fonts are probably going to change, would be my guess and you may have to work on that.

I’m not suggesting a fix, but will contribute to your discussion in hopes there will be something of satisfaction oncoming.
As you may know, the HEVC from the Hero 7 and the 120 fps from the Sony are going to labor your system (although your project setting of 29.970 should help).
Question: you are using Vegas proxies from the Hero footage correct? Is you preview set on ‘Preview’ or ‘draft’ quality? Otherwise the proxy is not being used.
If you bring in the HEVC footage into Vegas by itself and render it to ‘Magix Intermediate’ and use that intermediate file in place of the original source in your project, does it play better?

Rob, I’m not following what you are showing in those screenshots, they are all different. When I use ProType Titler in VP13, the render is exactly what I have in the Preview.
If you are getting something different when you post it to Facebook, I really don’t know what will cause that.
Can you post screenshots of the Media Generator you are using in VP13, what it looks like in the Preview and what is looks like in a render?

I use DaVinci Resolve 15.2.3. To avoid the learning curve you amy want to consider Vegas Pro 16, which I also have. You can download the trial version and try it out. It is full features with the exception I think it restricts rendering to 2 minutes.

February 19, 2019 at 10:09 pm in reply to: Do cellphone screens accurately represent what video looks like?Hi Duke,
Apparently you are wanting more information and you may think Tero’s reply was a bit rude. I commend him in providing the shortage answer, the fewest words using the shortest words, yet still providing a factual and accurate reply, keeping the time to compose and the bandwidth to post at a very minimum. I like it.
It doesn’t surprise me of the difference, I wouldn’t really expect all three preview devices to display accurately as in comparison.
Just my suggestion, but if you make a LUT with the changes required to display what looks good on your TV, to your projects so it looks good on your cell phone, you can apply that LUT in the future. In other words color and grade to look good on your TV and render, then apply the LUT and render a version for your cellphone.
Your cellphone probably does a good job of displaying accurately the video you shoot with it, as it will recognize what was shot with it’s sensor and codec. Not necessarily with footage from other sources.
With all the various custom settings available in various devices, I think it is fabulous that you have your small and large TV screens close!!

Rob, like Paul the ProType Titler works fine for me. I notice you are running build 545 which is the Magix version. I’m running the last build from Sony 453. I’m not sure if that makes a difference, but if you wanted to try, you probably can revert back to build 453 with your serial number, unless perhaps you bought your Vegas Pro from Magix when they bought out Sony and issued their first build which was supposed only changing the name space. But, if I remember correctly (maybe not I’m getting really old!!) there were a few problems with that build and most of us just kept the build 453.
Perhaps Paul can let us know what build he is on.
