    Terence, my 2 cents…..

When I have used intermediate files in place of the original source media for a best quality project, I have to wonder why I would ever need the originals? There are some positive answers that will depend on the future and a big maybe, but for practical purposes, if the originals were not good enough for my project and I was forced to use intermediates, most likely if I needed that source for a re-do or another project I would want to use the intermediates. So, if I want redundant storage it will be multiple copies of those intermediates.

I’m sure there is probably a obscure reason to keep the originals, but for me and my workflow I fail to identify any.

  • Thank You Duke. I have been doing searches there as well as with Google and haven’t as yet found anything that makes a difference. I have purchased the Studio version, and when that activation code arrives, perhaps Blackmagic support will have a suggestion (not holding my breath).

  • Hi Francois,

I wouldn’t upsize SD to FHD, rather go for 1280×720 and let modern flat screen TV do the upsizing to FHD during playback, as they are very good at that.

A program add-on called Happy Otter Scrips found at tools4vegas, may be the best bet. It is current a free beta program that I think will work in Vegas Pro 12 (probably not VP9). Here is the link to download Happy Otter Scripts

Here is a thread discussing using Happy Otter Scripts to upsize and deinterlace. It is long and the OP is having problems, but others helping him have had success.

    Hi Marco,

PLease provide us with more information about your system and spec’s along with project and source media spec’s.

How much vram does your RX580 have?

Screenshots of your Project Properties, Render Template settings, and use Mediainfo in text mode to post screenshots (or copy paste) the specs of all the different source media files you are using in your project.

Have you turned ‘OFF’ GPU acceleration of video processing in the Preferences Video tab?

Does this fail rendering at the same point? If so there may be something in the timeline that is causing the render to fail. Process of elimination will help discover what this is. It could be a transition, FX’s, or source media. You will have to watch the progress of the render and write down the last frame. Then go into the timeline to that frame and look at what is in that area a bit before and a bit after. Save your project off to a different name such as ‘Test’, then delete what you may think is causing a problem from the area of the last frame rendered, then try another render. If the render completes, you now know whatever you deleted from the timeline could be causing the issue. It time consuming, yes, but may be the only way to isolate the problem.

    Hi Eric,

I have another short test you may want to try. Start a new test project. Import into this project bipmaps source images from your older project that you mention in your previous post which look good in Vegas. Is the quality good as in the past or poor as in your latest problem project.

What we are trying to do is identify what has changed and caused the issue, Route Generator, Vegas, or something in your system.

If you can start a new project, and bring in old bipmaps and they look good, then that would point to a change somewhere in Route Generator.

Rob, on some mov files this may work, probably not but worth a try it is quick and easy. Change the client 90 second mov clip file extension from ‘mov’ to ‘mp4’ and see if that will play in Vegas Pro 13. Just an old trick that worked on a limited type of .mov’s.

Rob, do you have Quicktime installed? Do you have ER Media Tool Kit?

    George

yes it’s an mov file about 90 seconds long.

Not only does it not even play, it says “media offline”. I am going to try to convert it to mp4 OR convert the render out of the project to mov THEN combine the two mov files. But I cant find a render setting that outputs in mov :).

Do you think that would work?

I suppose that may work, but I’m even more confused than before!! Where does this 90 second mov file need to be in your project? Is it an overlay for your project, or does it need to play at the beginning as an intro?

If you do not have Quicktime installed you can not render your project to .mov (which is a container/wrapper). If you render your project to mov how are you going to combine the two when the client 90 second mov will not play in your Vegas?

    Hi Rob,

I’m confused (not necessarily unique for my age!!). You have a Vegas project showing a product or technique that you have placed text. Now you mention they sent you an .mov file with their logo. Is this .mov logo file suppose to be placed in your project as an overlay?

Perhaps you can explain your work flow so I can better understand how this .mov logo file fits into your project.

When you attempt to load their .mov file into Vegas, what exactly happens? If you get an error, what is the error?

Depending on what happens/error code, you may need to install Quicktime.

    Hi Eric,

I tried to help, but I’m not seeing the difference. Either my monitors are too low of resolution to see the difference or my old eyes are failing me, or perhaps both. I think I see a very, very small difference, but that is probably because after reading your post I wanted to see the difference you do.

I would agree, stick with the 8 bit pixel format and the higher rendering bit rate you have used in the past should help a bit with quality and not hurt you.

You could check to see if there is any difference when you load up a previous project. If the difference shows up in your previous projects, then you might want to consider some change to your system, such as a GPU driver update.

    Best Regards……George
