Trying to format footage shot at 1920×1080 to 1080×1080. I’m close but I still have bars on top and bottom or it’s stretched up and down. I’ve attached a screen shot. Your help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi Rob,

Open up Pan & Crop and right click on the video displayed and select ‘Restore’. That should set everything back to default.

Then check to assure the icon ‘Lock Aspect Ratio’ is un-checked (the icon will look like lock with XY in the background.

Then under ‘Position’ change the ‘width’ to ‘1080’ to match the height, making it a square. You can then move the square border viewing area around to show whatever past the 1920 width you want included. You can also animate this if needed.

When you render, in the render template change the ‘Frame size:’ to ‘Custom Frame Size’, then manual change the width of 1920 to match your square ‘1080’. Render out and enjoy.

    Best Regards……George

Thank you, George. I think that’s what I had done previous to my first email, because the outcome is the same, as you can see from the new screen shot. The timeline image is squeezed. I did begin with a custom template of 1080×1080. Do I need to go back and start with 1920×1080?

    Thank you,
    Rob

That’s what I would do, make the Project frame size match your source media and make the changes as I outlined above and it should come out dandy.

    Hi George

The process works, but I have to do it to each clip this way. Can I toggle a track control for this or do i have to wait to render then crop that?

    Hi Rob,

There are a couple ways to move this along quicker, you will like No. 2 I think.

    1. I would suggest setting this up with the event/clip, then save your changes as a preset. Then I realized I had not looked at the presets!!!! Sure enough there is a 1:1 preset in Pan & Crop already. I think this is included by default.

    2. Use the Pan & Crop preset to setup the 1:1 Square dimensions. Make sure that event/clip is selected, right click and select ‘Copy’. Then select the next event/clip, move to the end of the project, hold down ‘Shift’ then click on the last event/clip, this will select all the events/clips in your project, Right click on any of the selected events/clips and select ‘Paste Event Attributes’. That should then copy the Pan & Crop from the first event you copied into all the rest of the events you mass selected.

    Best Regards……George
