Looking through your post I only find the Mediainfo report of the mxf converted file. Can you post a Mediainfo report on your m2t file? I would like to compare it to mine to see what difference there is, as my m2t’s load into Resolve without problems, as well as, I’m curious about the bit rate. Thank You.

March 16, 2019 at 11:44 pm in reply to: I am having difficulty importing video clips into Da Vinci 15Terence, 1st please don’t read into my suggestion that I disagree with Ole to use DNx, as I stated I would prefer DNx over most h264/mp4 files. I was just adding a suggestion to reduce the size of your converted files to save storage space. However, if you use the 36Mb option in DNxER, the files size is only about twice the size of your original m2t (or at least mine) and the bit rate is a bit higher than the h264 I listed above.
The issue, as I see it for the most part (not completely) is finding a bit rate in the codec that retains enough quality for your working files and only takes up a reasonable amount of extra storage space. However, a h264/mp4 file can be a working or delivery, mostly depending on the bit rate selected. All of which most likely will not have a bearing on what you need.
If your m2t files have let’s say a bit rate of 40 Mb/s, transcoding/converting it to DNxHD 185 is going to be a waste, because you are starting with 40 and it will never be 185 by converting. Pretty much what happens is the files size gets bigger and on some systems the DNxHD will play back smoother than a lower bit rate (compressed) h264. h264 is actually capable of being lossless, but then it would require huge amounts of storage space with no benefits of increased quality.
However h264/mov would be a good candidate for a delivery format for streaming to your family, selecting a bit rate that retains reasonable quality, hold the files size down for saving bandwidth, and will play in all the devices your family members have available.
I’m not familiar with mp4/png, but when you included the word lossless, that to me spells huge storage space requirements! And, I don’t think Resolve will render it, maybe I’m wrong.
If your sample file was .5 Gb, I would not be able to download it anyway, as I’m on a limited monthly data program, I was kinda thinking a short sample would be more like 100 Mb.
I’m getting confused about your m2t source files, have you posted a Mediainfo (in text mode) report as yet? When I post this message I will run back through your post see. I don’t understand why a 15 second clip would be 500 Mb.

March 16, 2019 at 8:35 pm in reply to: I am having difficulty importing video clips into Da Vinci 15Hi Terence,
Risking that I muck up the waters, have you tried using MediaER to convert your m2t files to h264/mp4? You can set the bit rate, deinterlace, and change the pixel ratio all at the same time, and they will run in Resolve 15 without issues.
If you want to try this, I would set MediaER to the following before dropping in a test clip…..
– Classic mode
– Video Quality = Custom, set this to match your source, I tested 25 MiB source and thereby set this to 25,000.
– Audio Bit Rate – I left this at 96 Kbps, but you can change this to match your source.
– Media Container = MP4, although other option should also work.
– Force Size To should be checked and set the drop down to 1080p HD
– Replace Audio should be unchecked
– Extract Audio To Wav should be unchecked
– Anamorphic should be checked
– Deinterlace should be checked
– The remainder settings can be left at defaultThen drag your test clip and convert.
The test I made for this was an old m2t clip from my Canon XL2 1440×1080, 29.970, interlaced, bite rate 25.3 Mb/s, file size 23.3 MB. The resulting conversion file was 1920×1080, 29.970, progressive, bite rate 27.5 Mb/s, file size 23.3 MB. Both were 4:2:0 8 bit.
I prefer using DNx or ProRes, and when I was using source from this camera, I converted all the source to DNx intermediate, which was overkill in size and quality (which wasn’t used), but at the time the DNx ran smoother on the NLE and PC I was using. However I did not have storage space issues with the projects at that time.
The conversion I list above, should keep the quality pretty much the same, hold the file size down, and as you already know, using Media ER Tool Kit is very easy, supports batch processing, and relatively fast. Just a suggestion that may fit your needs.
BTW: I forgot to add this, the m2t file I used for testing from the Canon XL2, was easily added into Resolve 15.3 without converting.

When you reply there is a disc looking icon above the reply text window, that will allow you to upload a file here.
Unless the ER Media Tool Kit conversion file with the mp4 wrapper is working for you now.

March 13, 2019 at 10:37 pm in reply to: I am having difficulty importing video clips into Da Vinci 15Hi Terence,
Can you post the DNxHD specs (use the free app Mediainfo in text mode) here so we can take a look. Also if you have a short section you can upload, so we can download it and tinker with it, that may work well. I have no issue with Avid source in Resolve, so rather than guess, if you can provide a sample or at least the spec of you files that be be faster to a solution. Thank You.

Hi Ross,
OK, there is a way to copy markers. I will outline how to do it in a simple project, so follow along and try this out. If it works for you, then you should be able to apply the method to your project.
1. Start a new project (Project 1).
2. Add a clip from the Project Media to the timeline track.
3. Place a marker somewhere in the timeline event.
4. Select the timeline event and press Ctrl+C, to copy.
5. Keep this instance of Vegas open.
6. Start a new instance of Vegas (Project 2).
7. Place the play head at the beginning of the track if it is not already there.
8. Press Ctrl+V, to paste the event from Project 1 into the timeline of this Project 2.
9. Go back to Project 1. Press Alt+6, this will popup the Edit Details window.
10. In ‘Show’ drop down select ‘Markers’
11. Select the Marker shown in the list.
12. Press Ctrl+C, to copy this item.
We are almost there!!!
13. Switch back to Project 2.
13. Press Alt+6, to open the popup Edit Detail window.
14. From the ‘Show’ drop down list select ‘Markers’.
15. Click on the first empty line in the list (there should not be anything listed).
16. Press Ctrl+V, which will paste the marker from the Edit Detail window in Project 1 to this Edit Detail window in Project 2.
17. Bingo…..like magic, the marker from Project 1 in now in the same precise placement in Project 2.Hope this works out for you. It’s a bit long the first time, but not to bad after that. Also, you may want to look at an addon called Vegasaur, which may have a script option to copy markers, regions, etc. from one project to another.

March 12, 2019 at 9:56 pm in reply to: Is it better to simply use dual layer dvd’s as opposed to messing around w bitrates?Hi Jeff,
I would try the bit rate adjustment and if I could live with the quality I would avoid dual layer, as sometimes players have an issue with dual layer burns.

March 12, 2019 at 5:50 pm in reply to: How to perform a full reset in Vegas Pro 15 without doing a reinstall ?Hi Stan,
I thought about this a while ago, but could not remember the exact location, so I found these two links explaining it. I think the 2 bin files in the first link are the cached application data. As a test I followed both on my installed Vegas Pro 13 which worked out fine, like mentioned it took a bit longer for Vegas to load as expected, the first time, as Vegas needed to build the folders and files. I would recommend, as they have, make a copy first, and you may even want to consider setting a Restore Point in Windows before proceeding (that may be over kill, but certainly doesn’t hurt).
https://www.sonyvegas.co.uk/clear-plug-cache/
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/tips-clean-up-of-vegas-temp-files–104216/
If this does in fact clean things up and delete the cached application data, it does so without resetting Vegas to installation settings which is nice if you have added things like a customized tool bar, as resetting to default installation wipes those things a out.

March 12, 2019 at 4:06 pm in reply to: How to create 3d map in Fusion? Video sample includedA few months ago I somehow (just do not remember now) upon a special app Google Earth was starting that would allow a user to record this same effect. At the time I signed up for it, but I don not remember if I ever got approval back or not and if I did I never followed up on it. Perhaps a pecking around search you would find this app. Sorry that is all I remember, damn this getting old thing is poking holes in the brain cells!!

Just scroll down a few threads here in COW and you will find a thread on Happy Otter Scripts by the creator Wayne Waag, you may also want to post in that thread and point to this post, Wayne is probably monitoring.
