    Using Vegas 13.

    Ok, scenario is as follows:
I’m editing a multicam documentation of a wedding ceremony.
I will also make a cinematic edit of the wedding day later (separate project file)
I notice something (a few seconds of something) in the multicam doc of the ceremony that I think would work well in the cinematic edit.
How do I go about marking that spot in the media itself in the doc edit so that when I drop it in my cinematic edit, I can find it?
-OR- am I completely missing the boat and looking past a much more practical way?

    Hi Ross,

I’m not sure I am following your workflow, so my suggestion may be way off base. Open your current documentation project in Vegas Pro 13. Open a 2nd instance of Vegas Pro 13 for the cinematic version. Go to the 1st instance and select the part you want in the 2nd instance then do Ctrl+C. Switch over to the 2nd instance and move to the place in the timeline you want the copy to appear and press Ctrl+V.

You can also do nesting in Vegas Pro, which may or may not be as good or better. In the documentation project delete everything except the part you want in the cinematic project. Then save that small part as a separate project. Open the cinematic project, move to the time line that you want and add media using the separate project, and it will nest into the cinematic project. I’m not sure that is as clear as it should be!

    Best Regards……George

You’re following the workflow as best as possible.

I guess what I’m hoping for is some way to “mark” the media file while in multicam so that I could open that media file in another instance of Vegas and trim to just that mark.

    Hi Ross,

OK, there is a way to copy markers. I will outline how to do it in a simple project, so follow along and try this out. If it works for you, then you should be able to apply the method to your project.

    1. Start a new project (Project 1).
    2. Add a clip from the Project Media to the timeline track.
    3. Place a marker somewhere in the timeline event.
    4. Select the timeline event and press Ctrl+C, to copy.
    5. Keep this instance of Vegas open.
    6. Start a new instance of Vegas (Project 2).
    7. Place the play head at the beginning of the track if it is not already there.
    8. Press Ctrl+V, to paste the event from Project 1 into the timeline of this Project 2.
    9. Go back to Project 1. Press Alt+6, this will popup the Edit Details window.
    10. In ‘Show’ drop down select ‘Markers’
    11. Select the Marker shown in the list.
    12. Press Ctrl+C, to copy this item.
    We are almost there!!!
    13. Switch back to Project 2.
    13. Press Alt+6, to open the popup Edit Detail window.
    14. From the ‘Show’ drop down list select ‘Markers’.
    15. Click on the first empty line in the list (there should not be anything listed).
    16. Press Ctrl+V, which will paste the marker from the Edit Detail window in Project 1 to this Edit Detail window in Project 2.
    17. Bingo…..like magic, the marker from Project 1 in now in the same precise placement in Project 2.

Hope this works out for you. It’s a bit long the first time, but not to bad after that. Also, you may want to look at an addon called Vegasaur, which may have a script option to copy markers, regions, etc. from one project to another.

    Best Regards……George
