  • How to perform a full reset in Vegas Pro 15 without doing a reinstall ?

I would like to know how to perform a full reset in Vegas Pro 15 without doing a reinstall.

It is my impression that Vegas Pro 15 is now not working as well as when I first installed it.

To deal with a different problem (solved by Paul Berk), George Dean of this forum advised me to do a full reset:
“Hold down the ‘Ctrl+Shift’ keys and double left click on the Vegas desktop shortcut. Then check the box ‘Delete all cached application data’, then left click on ‘Yes’. This will reset Vegas to it’s original installation settings and delete the pesky cached application data that will build up and sometimes make Vegas do strange things! “

This doesn’t work for me. I have tried it several times, I have created a new shortcut and I have tried highlighting the shortcut before double-clicking it.

I then tried opening the internal tab by double clicking on Options/Preferences while holding down Control and Shift and then setting the first row “Reset all Settings on Startup” to TRUE. This does things like removing the recent projects list from the File dropdown options list.

Q1 Is the reset option via the internal tab doing the same thing as the reset method in the first para above?

Q2 If the resets are different, is the Preferences Internal tab reset clearing the cached application data?

Q3 How do you check if the cached data has been cleared?

Q4 Why doesn’t George’s suggestion for resetting (in para 1) work on my system and how can I get it to work?

Answers to any of the question would be welcomed as would any info on what this cached data is.
Many thanks to Paul and George for their quick responses to my previous question.

Are you continuing to hold down CTRL-SHIFT after double-clicking the icon? Keep them pressed until the window appears.

    Thank you Edward,
yes, I have tried hold the keys down until the Vegas(15) is fully loaded. First the user account control box pops up “do you want to allow this application ……” I accept this and still continue to hold the Contorol and Shift keys down but the application just loads as usual.

Go to your programme files and locate the “.exe” file for your Vegas. Create a shortcut for this and transfer it to your desktop. Then try using that.

Thanks Eric but I have already tried doing that – makes no difference.

    Hi Stan,

I thought about this a while ago, but could not remember the exact location, so I found these two links explaining it. I think the 2 bin files in the first link are the cached application data. As a test I followed both on my installed Vegas Pro 13 which worked out fine, like mentioned it took a bit longer for Vegas to load as expected, the first time, as Vegas needed to build the folders and files. I would recommend, as they have, make a copy first, and you may even want to consider setting a Restore Point in Windows before proceeding (that may be over kill, but certainly doesn’t hurt).

If this does in fact clean things up and delete the cached application data, it does so without resetting Vegas to installation settings which is nice if you have added things like a customized tool bar, as resetting to default installation wipes those things a out.

    Best Regards……George
