  • I am having difficulty importing video clips into Da Vinci 15

I previously asked about importing M2T files into Davinci 15. After help from many users I realised that DNxHD was immensely better and started switching to that format. However that also has been impossible for me. The new clips that I have look like this Clip 001_DNxHD-HD1080[Anamorphic], however I cannot get them into Davinci. They play perfectly well. However there is something I must not be doing correctly. I have loaded Mp4 clips without a problem and also the Training videos. Could you advise me please.

    Hi Terence,

Can you post the DNxHD specs (use the free app Mediainfo in text mode) here so we can take a look. Also if you have a short section you can upload, so we can download it and tinker with it, that may work well. I have no issue with Avid source in Resolve, so rather than guess, if you can provide a sample or at least the spec of you files that be be faster to a solution. Thank You.

    Best Regards……George

How are you bringing the clips in? Are you using the Import Media command or dragging them from the desktop?

It would also help if we knew about your system: what hardware (CPU, RAM, GPU, disk i/o)? What OS? What specific version of Resolve? What timeline resolution? What resolution and aspect ratio does the format have?

Is this Resolve Studio or the free version? It may be that there are issues with using this format on the latter, particularly if it’s 4K or above. I have done many sessions with DNxHD and OP1a from Avid in Resolve and it works great.

Here is the text mode report. I would happily sent you a clip if you could tell me where to send it.
The whole problem might be my fault as this is a new programme for me.
    I really appreciate your help

    Hi

If you look at the picture I postet – how to use ER Media Toolkit – you forgot to change to .mov !

    Best,
    Ole

[Terence Christopher] “however I cannot get them into Davinci”

How are you not getting them in Resolve? Do they not show up in the media page? If you actually have brackets in the filename you could try removing those. Do not use any special characters when naming files.

Hi Ole. I am afraid the image on my computer was not big enough to see you clicking on the Mov button and as the other choice was mxf that seemed to be the right one so I just went with that. I also didn’t realise the significance of the choice and actually still do not! I thought the mov format was an old low res one unrelated to HD or UHD. When is it used nowadays? I will go back and try some movies with that option. I’ll report back. What had I done wrong with the format that I chose? I will go ahead and report back to the other people who are also trying to help me.
Thanks for all the very kind help
    Terence

It really doesn’t matter if it’s an .mov or an .mxf file as Resolve supports both.

Yes, but there is a problem with ER Media Toolkit and .mxf – I made the test with Davinci Resolve 15 Studio – it was okay with .mov !

“I also didn’t realise the significance of the choice and actually still do not!”

I think there is a bug in the code that ER Media Toolkit uses to convert to .mxf extension – so davinci Resolve cannot read the files!

“I thought the mov format was an old low res one unrelated to HD or UHD.”

mxf and mov is a media container and have nothing to do with low res and so on !

    “When is it used nowadays?”

Everywhere ! Try asking those using MAC computer !

Terence@ I would happily sent you a clip if you could tell me where to send it.

When you reply there is a disc looking icon above the reply text window, that will allow you to upload a file here.

Unless the ER Media Tool Kit conversion file with the mp4 wrapper is working for you now.

    Best Regards……George
