What I think about doing is selecting a soundbite with the range tool, then key wording the main points, name, the fact it’s an interview, and anything else I think of. Then when I make a smart collection, I can do so by person, or the point they make, or any combo I can think of. Then I will have just those clips in front of me with only the selected range visible. Seems fairly straightforward, but certainly different than what we are used to. Plus you can have all the bites about the same point all in one place. Or all the bites from one person.

My sense this is where smart collections come in. Seems a bit backwards to work this way, but once you see the power it will make sense. The beauty of this is the collections are dynamic, as you add keyframes to clips, they pop up in the appropriate smart collections.

My experience syncing clips is you can only sync one video with secondary audio at a time.

It’s interesting to see the behavior of the synced clips in a sequence. Wherever there is no video in the synced clip, you can see through to the clip below it in the viewer as you skim the top clip.

I finally realized I was approaching this with a plural eyes POV on how it should work, so I selected ALL the clips I wanted synced and said go to work. Wrong. By doing it one video with secondary audio at a time it works perfectly. When the manual said “two video clips” my mind read “from different cameras” instead of what was clearly written in the manual, “recorded during the same take.”

Have had a fair number of crashes, but haven’t lost a keystroke.

One thing I’m loving is the way it remembers my window arrangement. I’m using a 27″ iMac with a 23″ cinema display as a second monitor and it allows me to put the events and timeline on my secondary monitor and the viewer on the iMac. Other apps I’ve tried this with always want to restart with the main window on the iMac.

Try “lifting” the clip to a secondary storyline, putting it above the main storyline, retime, trim, replace.
