Stability
For those of you who are using it, how are you finding stability on FCPX and is any instability causing you to lose edits?

Have had a fair number of crashes, but haven’t lost a keystroke.
One thing I’m loving is the way it remembers my window arrangement. I’m using a 27″ iMac with a 23″ cinema display as a second monitor and it allows me to put the events and timeline on my secondary monitor and the viewer on the iMac. Other apps I’ve tried this with always want to restart with the main window on the iMac.

A lot of crashes for me but I’m running it on a MBP rather than my MacPro while I test it out. When I use Open in Motion everything gets very sluggish. I probably need to try a clean install to sort it all out.
But as Geoff says it does seem (as advertised) to recover from crashes without losing anything – which is an amazing step forward if you think about it.

Yeah, i’ve had a couple crashes and a kernal panic, and didn’t lose anything. It’s super nice in that way.

The kernel panic is the computer’s fault…not FCP X’s. I just had one a second ago in FCP lost a little bit of work. Got a problem on the logic board and the company isn’t sure if they want to get it replaced since this machine most likley won’t be needed past august.
I meant that it’s pretty nice that even when you have a kernal panic, you still don’t lose any work.

I’m having some interesting issues, which I think is related to memory. The program is remarkable stable most of the time, but after editing for a few hours (I have several large projects open), the program starts to bog down a bit. When this happens, quitting and restarting seems to be the solution. However, quitting the program takes several minutes. It appears to hang, but if I just let it go it will eventually quit on its own and open right back up like nothing was wrong.
Another related issue which I know other people have been seeing is that sometimes the program will refuse to “undo”; the option is simply greyed out in the menu bar. When this happens, the program becomes much more unstable, and in my experience will not save any work beyond that point. After digging around a bit it seems to be a permissions problem; I’ve repaired permissions and haven’t seen it crop up since, but it’s very odd that the permissions would be messed up in the first place, as I did a clean install with two partitions before installing FCPX.
Anyway, I’m curious if anybody else has been seeing these same issues. I’m running a brand new 17″ MBP with the 2.3Ghz i7 and 8G of ram; basically, the fastest MBP I could buy. I’m working on about 5 different 2+ hour projects at once, each with 8 tracks of 48k audio. I’m guessing the 8G of memory I have isn’t quite up to all that, but the program should be able to allocate memory correctly, unless there’s some kind of leak in the software.
