Hi, Marc. There’s no specific opacity param in that plug-in; you can apply it with an adjustment layer as you said, or comp it over the original and fade between them.
If you just want the dots to grow and shrink rather than fade in and out, use the Dots Frequency parameter.
If an adjustment layer isn’t working for you due to 3d layer problems in AE, you can always precomp.

Hi ThreeDGuy, Pete is quite right that Sapphire can help you out. Try WarpBubble, maybe with Frequency Rel X = 2, adjust amplitude & frequency to suit. WarpBubble2 gives a more squiggly look (like two warps in one), depends on what you’re looking for.
Or you could try using something like Texture Folded as a displacement map. It has nice animation built in.

Hi, Paul. We would love to be able to do this. Unfortunately it’s a limitation of how FCP treats all AE-type effects. We have been working with Apple to see if they can make this easier, but for now that’s how it is. Perhaps if Apple hears from their customers that this is an important issue, they might give it more priority? 🙂

December 6, 2005 at 5:00 pm in reply to: Should I buy Sapphire plug-ins for Avid or After Effects?Hi Jaymin — just FYI, Sapphire2 for AVX will improve the nesting workflow, especially for titles and keys. It’s due out early next year, and there are lots more goodies in it too compared to the current version. We’re currently offering free upgrades to Sapphire V2 for AVX if you buy V1 now.
I’d base your decision more on where you spend most of your time, and where you most need the effects capability readily available.
Hope that helps!

Hi, BKM. Yes, it can be done on any platform. It’s not for the faint of heart or the scripting novice, but it’s not that difficult either. The best way to start is to read the documentation in that file, and then copy an existing flare (from its begin line through its end line) to the end of the file, change the name, and start playing with it. Unless you’re on Discreet, you generally need to restart the host app to reload the modified lens flares.
If you come up with some nice ones, feel free to post them here.

October 31, 2005 at 3:21 pm in reply to: COW Articles: User Story Sapphire Plug-Ins Provide Big Help on “Little Manhattan”Hi Justin.
To get a radial (zoom or crash) blur, make the From Z Dist and To Z Dist different from each other. The more different they are, the longer the blur.
To get a rotational blur, make the From and To Rotate different from each other. To get a directional (straight) blur, make the From and To Shifts different from each other. You can combine any or all of these to get any look you want.
Basically the Z Dist, Rotate, and Shift define a transform for the image; the blur happens between the From transform and the To transform.

Don’t try and use the AVX 1.0 release of Sapphire on XPro HD 5.x,
since it’s my understanding that XPro HD 5 no longer supports the
AVX 1.0 format.Actually XPro HD 5.x still supports AVX1.0 just fine, and Sapphire Plug-ins work well on it. You might be remembering that a new version of plug-ins is required on Tiger; that’s true, but it’s not an AVX1/AVX2 issue. Just make sure you have Sapphire 1.35 or later on Mac.

September 30, 2005 at 7:46 pm in reply to: field issues with sapphire pluggins in FCPHi, Paul. See here: https://www.genarts.com/sapphire-ae-support.html#fcp-graphic
FCP can have frame corruption problems when a plug-in is applied directly to a graphic with an odd height, such as a psd or jpg image. The workaround is to nest the graphic in a subsequence, and apply the plug-in to the nest instead to the original image. Hopefully this problem will be fixed in a future version of FCP.
