Just wanted to chime in here and agree with promoboy; check out Sapphire v2. It makes all this stuff super easy — single click to apply to just the current layer (key or title) without affecting the layers beneath. Also tons of other useful stuff like simpler masking, 2D DVE built into each effect, and so on.

There’s a lot you could do with Sapphire! How about Warp Perspective to replicate it onto a plane, then animate the 3d plane moving? Or Warp Chroma or Warp Repeat? If you have Sapphire v2, try S_Feedback or Trails to get trails on the motion. All depends on what you’re trying to achieve.

April 4, 2006 at 9:53 pm in reply to: Upgrade for Just purchased ver 1?

Definitely! If you purchased Sapphire for Avid any time in the last few months you are eligible for a free upgrade to v2. We’ll be contacting all recent purchasers in the next few days. (If you bought for AE or Discreet, this upgrade doesn’t apply to you.)

For those on this forum who don’t know yet, we just released Sapphire v2 for Avid today. Tons of new effects, workflow enhancements including single-click application to titles and keys, AVX2 support including advanced keyframes and lots of other goodies. The press release is at https://www.genarts.com/pr-avid-v2.html.

Hi iesilver; one Sapphire license works for all AE-compatible apps on a single machine. So if you have FCP, Motion and AE on your Mac, one license will work for all of them.

  • How about a big bright lens flare centered on the camera flashbulb that lasts for only a frame or two (or as long as you want)? Just animate the brightness or, in most recent Avid versions, you can put the flare on a couple of frames of filler above your main video track. That way you have almost no render time.

Yes, we can send you a CD if you like. Just email GenArts at info@genarts.com or call us at +1 617 492-2888.

I should point out though that the download is normally less than 10 MB so it’s not too bad even on a 56k dialup.

March 2, 2006 at 8:56 pm in reply to: Drop Shadow on a Chroma Key

With a chroma key the simplest thing will probably be to render out the matte as a separate pass (use video mixdown). Then you can use S_DropShadow or S_DropShadowMatte to apply the drop shadow using your original foreground (the input to the chroma key), the matte, and the background. Please email support@genarts.com if you’d like more details — we’re always happy to help!

  • Hi, Hunter. As far as I know you can’t apply motion paths to any AVX plug-ins, including Sapphire. (Someone more knowledgeable may correct me I’m sure!)
