Because you are recompressing video that is already highly compressed.

Is there audio on both cams? You can get a quick, gross adjustment by lining up the waveforms that is more accurate than 1 second. You can fine tune from there.

At the bottom of the Save As dialog, there is a choce to ‘copy and trim media with project’.

In the same dialog, you can select type AAF for project export. You may need a Automatic Duck on the FCP side.

Mary,

It looks like you have the technique pretty well in hand.

HD let’s you keep good resolution in SD (or in your case, lower) because, even when you zoomed in, that cropped section of the source is still higher resolution than the output.
