As long as you have Vegas 7, there is no need for intermediate proxy files. Just shoot and edit HDV like you always did with DV.

You need to monitor from Vegas via firewire, so most likely it will be firewire out to a DV camera or other converter, then S-Video (or whtever) from there to the TV input.

Blur the video on track 2 and cut a hole in the video on track 1 using a Bezier mask (found in Pan/Crop).

If the video is really widescreen, then set your project properties to match. More likely, you have 4:3 footage that has a letterbox mask in which case apply your own mask to it. For example, open Pan/Crop and choose (and perhaps modify) on of the letterbox presets.

To change some of the colors and not others, use the Secondary color corrector.

Regions won’t be that handy for that function. Select the event(s) you want to delete from, drag a time selection and hit the delete key.
If you want to close the resulting gap, then hit Ctrl/Shift/F for post-ripple.

Right-click the menu and choose Insert Playlist. Add them all to the playlist, and that’s exactly what you’ll get.

When you choose File> Capture Video you should see a dialog box that gives you a choice of either DV (external) or HDV (internal) capture. Did you get that far, or is there another problem?

I don’t have a great soluton, but how about this?:

Scrub through dialog 1 and delete out the sections with no dialog (can be relatively quck using the waveforms as a guide). Do the same with the other dialog wich will be pretty quick because you will cut out the parts so that what remains will be where the gaps in the other dialog are, plus some overlap.

Then, select the fitst bit of the 2nd dialog, right-click and choose Select Events to End. Hit the numeric 8 key to pop all the dialog 2 pieces up to the same track as diaolg 1. You would now have one track with the dialog one and two bits crossfading back and forth.
