Recently, I finished a large graduation project, however, as I worked on it, there were multiple times that Vegas 7.0e “froze” and I had to restore my work every time. Another problem was that I was attempting to use still photos, however, at times, Vegas would not recognize the photos and instead, the playback screen would be bright red as it came to the photos. Has anyone dealt with this problem and how can I best avoid it next time?

Sounds like you have a problem connecting with the media. Are your pics on an external drive?

I have encountered the same problem when using large photoshop or jpg files in vegas. Large filesize and big resolution.

Try to downscale the pictures, and I think you will be fine. It solved the problem for me.

Yes, they were on an exteral drive. However, the still pics would work at times and at other times they would not. When I attempted to render the file, the rendering process stopped when the program reached certain still pics. It seemed to stop at pics that were taken years ago, while the recent pics from digital cameras worked fine.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

Thank you, I will definitely try that in the future.

Are the problem images in TIFF format?
If so, change them to PNG or JPG and I (almost) guarantee that your problems will go away 🙂

I had a similar situation occurr with Vegas 7.0e. I was working on a project that used m2t files and they were stored on my secondary hard drive which is internal. The project was rather large and at aproximately 78% rendering Vegas would freeze. No error messages were generated and task manager would just show that the program quit responding. I would then have to restore my work every time. Vegas always seemed to crash at 78% during the rendering process. I uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas 7.0e several times with no success. The strange thing is that I am able to go to my computer double click on the secondary drive and see the files on the drive. I then double click on the m2t files and the system seems to freeze. Everything appears to work fine as long as I am working off of the primary drive. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
