Hello, thanks for answering! the model of the camera is

    Naxa HD camera NDC-405
it is a cheap knockoff of a GoPro

I record on the camera, and simply copy/paste the AVI file from the camera on to the PC. Then I load it into Movie Studio. It creates an audio and video track on the timeline…. the audio is fine. the video is blacked out.

    any advice is appreciated!

no codecs or anything on the computer. it’s particularly clean right now because i just reformatted my HD and reinstalled just the basics.

(BTW I’m using Vegas Pro 8)

still searching for a solution. thanks for trying.

after you edit something out, you should do a “post-edit-ripple” and it will automatically remove the time from the timeline.

you can also use this function to remove time from previous edits…. just select the section you want to remove, delete it (even tho there is nothing there), and then do the post-edit-ripple.

thanks…. the switch works when I pass the URL to someone but i just tried putting the video on facebook and evidently it strips the swtich off and plays the video in crap mode.

so i’m still on my quest for figuring out how to get nice crisp videos in the default mode. like this one for example:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGTAnXqn9Jc

look at how crisp it is, in default mode!!!

how the heck do they do that? is this rocket science or what?

maybe I’ll email the user and ask.

February 13, 2009 at 3:49 pm in reply to: my Youtube vid looks like crap 🙁

Thanks! I found that the “&fmt=18” added on to the URL did force it to play in high quality mode. The “&fmt=22” didn’t seem to do anything except remove the “play in high quality mode” link.

This is a good temporary solution for me. thanks. But I’d still like to know why I see so many videos on youtube that are really good quality, even in the regular mode. It shouldn’t be rocket science?????!?!

I would really like my regular mode to show higher quality because people who view my videos on their own (not by receiving my link with the “&fmt=18” added on, will still be seeing it in crappy mode.

Again I welcome any ideas or suggestions!!

well i figured out that my version of Vegas allows me to customize the rendering with WMV but with mp4 I only have two choices.

so for now I’m stuck with WMV. So I boosted it to 640 x 480 and 5M bit rate. and it still looks like crap on youtube:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC7z-aPR7vs

I did find that if I click the “view in high quality” link it looks pretty good. if that could be the default, I’d be satsified. does anyone know how to force it to play in high quality mode as the default?

February 12, 2009 at 4:09 pm in reply to: Filesize / rendering problem for Vegas/Youtube

    thanks for the reply but…

I have read many posts on various websites that recommend the 1M bit rate for Youtube. Are you saying that this only applies to videos of ~4 minutes or less? Why would everyone be saying to use 1M when the resulting file is too large for Youtube?

I’m using Platinum 9 version, which actually does allow me to customize the rendering templates. I can click the “custom” button and all the tabs give me options to change, except the bitrate tab.

I guess my version doesn’t allow me to change the bitrate, which is what you’re saying i need to do to get my videos to fit on youtube if they’re over 4 minutes? So I’m just SOL until I spend $450, or go back to Windows Movie Maker? Arg….

    thanks again for any advice

thanks for the good info about mp4 and youtube.

to answer your question – sometimes there is an option for WMV but not templates, and it won’t let me render. other times WMV is not even there (and it seems like most of the options are audio only). I thought maybe I just had the audio track selected and that caused the wmv to disappear, but I made sure I had everything selected and it still wasn’t there. I guess I need to fiddle with it more.

thanks, but I’d really like to make a WMV file. Is this not supported by Vegas? It’s weird that it was there at first, but no templates for it, and then it just disappeared.

I have read that WMV gives the best quality Youtube videos, and for other reaons I’d like to be able to create WMVs.

    Is WMV supported?

    thanks
