    hi,
i have searched this forum and others for the best settings for rendering for youtube. I think I’m doing everything right:

    wmv
    320×240
    1M bitrate
    “best” quality
    CBR video mode

the render looks fine, nice and crisp, before i upload it to youtube, but then it gets destroyed. have a look:

i’ve seen people get much better results. am I missing something?

    thanks

Has a multi-level tutorial on how to encode for youtube.
    640 x 360 is a good size, 5-7.5Mbps, 30p, using mp4 vs wmv.
    wmv doesn’t scale real well.
FWIW, all our vids go to youtube as 1280 x 720, 30fps, 10Mbps

well i figured out that my version of Vegas allows me to customize the rendering with WMV but with mp4 I only have two choices.

so for now I’m stuck with WMV. So I boosted it to 640 x 480 and 5M bit rate. and it still looks like crap on youtube:

I did find that if I click the “view in high quality” link it looks pretty good. if that could be the default, I’d be satsified. does anyone know how to force it to play in high quality mode as the default?

If you read the linked tutorial, it explains exactly how to do that.

Thanks! I found that the “&fmt=18” added on to the URL did force it to play in high quality mode. The “&fmt=22” didn’t seem to do anything except remove the “play in high quality mode” link.

This is a good temporary solution for me. thanks. But I’d still like to know why I see so many videos on youtube that are really good quality, even in the regular mode. It shouldn’t be rocket science?????!?!

I would really like my regular mode to show higher quality because people who view my videos on their own (not by receiving my link with the “&fmt=18” added on, will still be seeing it in crappy mode.

Again I welcome any ideas or suggestions!!

other than manually adding the switch, youtube does not currently offer a way to see HD by default.
Vimeo would be the next logical choice.

thanks…. the switch works when I pass the URL to someone but i just tried putting the video on facebook and evidently it strips the swtich off and plays the video in crap mode.

so i’m still on my quest for figuring out how to get nice crisp videos in the default mode. like this one for example:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGTAnXqn9Jc

look at how crisp it is, in default mode!!!

how the heck do they do that? is this rocket science or what?

maybe I’ll email the user and ask.
