  • [James Culbertson] “The question is why would daisy chaining the two R4s not work?”

don’t know, I would try a series of connections between devices, it could be just a startup sequence issue with 2 devices of the same type, did you open up the Promise Raid Utility to check out the devices, did you try to plug them in after booting?

    What does the console say?

  • [James Culbertson] ” New MacProCylinder. R4s are daisy chained with newer R4 closest to MacPro.”

Not a lot of info here,

Why are the J4’s daisy chained? with 6 Thunderbolt ports run each unit into it’s own port.

    How are the monitors connected?

Are you sure the cables work?

July 18, 2014 at 2:08 pm in reply to: Use Arri Alexa footage on WIndows?

[matt chapman] “Is there anyway to convert the footage for us in Windows”

Arri raw files can be read directly inside of adobe premiere on either platform.

Gluetools.com does make the only AMA plugin to control the ARRIRAW content directly on Avid Systems.

Resolve can also open and convert the files.

July 15, 2014 at 5:25 pm in reply to: Pro Apps Codec update = loosing 2nd monitor

[Eric Santiago] “Actually Gary the same problem occurs with our new trash cans.”

Interesting, I am not seeing that issue occur on any of my systems (including the NMP)

I have 2 4K screens on my NMP via display port and not having any issues.

[Eric Santiago] “Still not a big fan of display changes.
Cant span a window across my Dual 30s :P”

Thats because that graphics card does not have the support for the dual Dvi-D connections at that rez.

drop in a different graphics card and it’s not an issue.

  • [Christian Simpson] “Playback always studders in the beginning as if its being choked and then playback is way out of sync.”

OK, you don’t tell us anything but it’s not playing back properly

Does this same issue happen when you completely render the media before playback?

Are you playing content from the internal or eternal media? Is that media fast enough
What is your scratch disk location and is the drive fast enough?

Is the project rendered= this sound like a mismatched sequence or mixed timeline – even better reason to render completely before output.

Are you using a SMPTE standard formate and frame rate?

June 21, 2014 at 2:19 pm in reply to: ARRI ALEXA – 60fps Slow Motion

[Madison Yturralde] “I don’t know if there is something wrong or DOP mistake on camera settings.”

What does the Arri Metadata say about the file- this will answer your questions
allows you to read the metadata as the camera recorded it in the file.

My guess is both are wrong- your options are

The editor is a lazy avid guy that did not check the content before ingesting it
or The dailies he is using were made improperly.

The Camera may have shot 60p but the master sensor settings were not changed from 29.97

June 20, 2014 at 2:59 pm in reply to: ARRI ALEXA – 60fps Slow Motion

[Madison Yturralde] “Am I missing some workflow?”

I Think you assume that your dailies would be the same frame rate as shot, unless you manually define that no they are not.

You do not say whether you want the footage to be slowed down or played at 60p- in either case the frame rate needs to be set manually for any files you convert lest the default values screw it up.

June 10, 2014 at 3:54 pm in reply to: Ki Pro Quad Mounting Media issue

[Michael Zolomij] “When the media cards are installed, the unit boots up and then I receive a “Media Mounting” status that does not go away.”

Start up the unit without media installed in the unit- then load the mags and re-format the media.

I have seen this happen with media that was not formatted as HFS+

[Mark Smith] “the Ki Pro Quad will record 60P 4k with dual link from the C500”

Mark the max frame rate in 4K is 30p.

60p is possible but not at max resolution.
