Hey bob,
You are correct, neither of the previous posters noted that I was trying to use the camera while recording to an external device and that was the reason all I got was interlace on output -and yes I do know that HDMI can support 60p- but the camera only delivers 60p as a file-NOT as video coming out of the camera.
Much like the GoPro Camera it can record internally at 60p- but the video output is something different.

[Fred Jodry] “(Gary or David, this topic should be spent, erasable in a couple of weeks, late October).”
Fred, I have no idea what this means…
I am recommending that people look at Cache-A system for simple, easy to use LTO.

October 5, 2010 at 1:39 pm in reply to: Is ARRI-raw from Alexa available at all at the moment?[Serkan Yegen] “Is ArriRaw avaliable with the new firmware after IBC?”
No, and neither are any of the recording systems. I do not expect to see Arriraw public until december or January.

[Nick Shaw] “Gary, when you say CLONE, I take it you mean to a disk image which can later be mounted and seen by the OS as if it were the original SxS card. Am I correct?”
Correct Nick. The XML path defines the cards as a “local volume” and if the cards are not mounted as volumes as they would be on the original media, the XML reports the path as broken.
Its good to know that Clipfinder will support the Arri workflows, its a great tool, I am sure that others will be moving forward on that front like the Foundry is with Storm.
I also expect to see ArriRaw implementations across the board on the NLE side by NAB or so.
Add me to the list of people wanting to take a look at your LUT plugin for FCP also.

September 29, 2010 at 1:21 pm in reply to: ARRI Alexa problem shooting slow motion on SxS[Rami Katzav] ” tried shooting higher frame rates on the Alexa, using the SxS cards with Prores422, but it would not go higher than 30fps – giving an ERROR message saying that the card is not fast enough to transfer DATA…any advise “
That 60fps in ProRes 422 has not been enabled yet ( as of Build 2.0), the current max rate on the camera for internal recording is 30fps.
Alexa will not ever be able to record 60p as 444 on the SxS media, that will require much faster media.

[Villing Chong] “I’m working on an Alexa shoot tomorrow on SxS shooting ProRes. Do you think we’ll be on a build that is shooting RGB?”
It is my understanding that ProRes content is still being recorded as Y”Cr’Cb. I do not believe that RGB will be available until later this fall.

[Villing Chong] “‘m just about the step onto a feature shooting on the Alexa as data wrangler but I don’t know much about it though I am familiar with SxS, Red and other formats.”
Villing.
Currently the existing software [packages do not properly handle alteration of the XML data pathways when files are moved from the Cards to a folder structure on a secondary device. For that reason it is currently recommended to CLONE each Card so that when the cards are remounted the XML path is accurate.
Gluetools Conform and Pomfort’s Silver Stack will be the first file handling software packages that should properly modify the XML path structure when copying the Alexa standard UDF card formats.

[Marcus Vasques Osorio] “no this is not the case as it happens randomly, i have also been there and checked the timebase of the project….”
Marcus,
It is an issue with the MENU > Project > timebase
This setting is different than the frame rates available to Menu > Recording > Monitor out- which can be set differentlyOR
The Sensor is looking to lock to the External sync via the external link settings.

[Marcus Vasques Osorio] “Am in the middle of consulting on 3 drama series shot on ALEXA, all on the PRO RES 4444 direct to XsX. Anyway a small bug has appeared where the fps can change randomly from 24 – 25 fps “
It’s operator error.
The Project timebase is not set correctly.
The project settings will override the fps settings especially when you have the “Link Sensor to Frame Rate” setting chosen.

[Michael Aranyshev] “You can convert them with GraphicsMagick or ImageMagick command-line tools, but it was 8 bit per channel last time I checked.”
50p/60p is traditionally only 8bit 4:2:2 even thought it is sent over a Dual Link or T-link connection, newer cameras can commit the files as 10bit 444 like Alexa or the f23. (f35 only goes to 50p).
“50/60 fps shooting with ARRI is a mess. TC is half the frame rate and it will give you hell during conform. “
That is due to the fact when the camera was new the use for 60p acquisition it was for Offspeed capture, not for capture at full 60p but for overcranking for cinematic effect.gary adcock
