View -external video is not set properly.
reset it to your DVCPro 50 easy setup then relaunch FCP– all should be fine.
Check that you turned have it on!

Actually that is just the point I was trying NOT to make.
there is only one FW buss on any mac computer – FW 400 & FW800 ports on ALL MAC’s are the same FW Buss.
Caution —YOU SHOULD NEVER USE a FW400 to FW800 adapter when using the 1200a deck it will short out the FW board in the deck.and what good is a 6 pin to 4 pin adaptor cable when neither your mac or the 1200a use the smaller connection?

in the 1080i world there is only PSF. Sony did this” progressive segmented frame” to elongate the amount of time their interlaced technology would stay in the coming progressive world. PSF is treated by many as a “progressive format” ( mostly on the west coast
The only TRUELY progressive format in the Sony 1080 world is Dual Link.gary adcock

For playback at 24p maybe, I would never tell someone that they can capture DVCPROHD to a single Fw400 drive.
in theory that a single drive can do it is not necessarily what the real world functionality of a single drive is.
Note also that the DVCPROHD FW connection takes over the entire FW buss and requires that the user have more than one
FW buss on their computer ( and NO it does not have 2- it only came with one.)gary adcock

it is always better to work with “decompressed” material-(ie: it has been laid to tape). ALL current decks do have hardware decompressors built for the specific codec used by that company. SO opening up DVCPROHD content to save you from working in a compressed format is always the best. then you can color correct without the need for dealing with the compression issues.gary adcock

we are going to assume that everything you have is Standard Def. then look at the AJA io – anything in / and everything out is always live. The AJA hardware boards offer some added functions – like the ability to read other hardware codecs – but the Io is a workhorse.it comes in 3 flavors -Analog ports, digital ports and one that does both.

I have captured plenty of things just fine this way but tonight the audio is way out of sync, so far I couldn’t even tell you how many seconds, when I escape capture now the clip is missing 10 or more seconds at the end of the clip. also I’m getting what appears to be drop frames ( little black flashes every now and then). nothing has changed I’m completely at a loss. Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.”
hey Joe –First CML and Now here.
I am going to assume you have a K2 card, running FCP5 and the latest AJA and Apple updates.
First issue – Clip ending early
when you capture now in HDSDI from the camera – FCP cannot handle all of the info dynamically, so it cache’s the incoming info, unfortunately for you you need to compensate for the system caching these files on ingest by allocating time for the processor and system to catch up – and this depends on the speed of your computer and amount of RAMgood rule of thumb for this process is let the camera roll for at least 30 seconds after a capture before “escaping”
if the capture is more than 30 minutes allow 1 minute extra for every 30 minutes of capture.
Issue 2
check your cables and make sure you have updated the AJA drivers.gary adcock
