but let me offer a couple of Uncompressed HD speed tips (and they work for SD also)

– Always Render (or encode to mpeg) all media to a different array than your original content is stored on.
– This is a must for 1080 10bit and 4:4:4 video streams this can reduce render time by as much as 50% (mpeg encodes are at least 2x as fast doing this)
– Pre-render files that need heavy rendering and export as a new QT file. – then you are not re-rendering the same content over and over again. I build my projects in 7-12minute sequences – then render those Seq’s to a new QT file and use that video file for as part of my final output for tape.
– Turn everything off – anything that is not being directly used for that project. No open apps, no unused disks or media drives, no itunes, no ichat. turn off your internet connection.

This is HD and it is not forgiving when it comes to systems resources.

I concur, I have done 4 DL projects and one direct capture DL on set. I am currently working on another project that will be conformed in 4:4:4.
I have to admit that one of the coolest things is being able to do a real time Downconvert of any HD content. I have more than a few people that are amazed that I can send out a lowly composite NTSC signal from a DL video stream.

Thats not the issue – one or the other of the applications will need to handle the system audio. these 2 apps are in constant conflict with each other.
IF the user is smart enough in Line Command to force FCP to always take charge that is one thing – but this is a really really bad idea – editing video is hard enough on your machines without the extra problems of playing seek intensive audio files while your editing.

If you are buying a PCIe Mac get the LHe card.
if you are buying a PCIx 2.7 get either a K2 or and LH,

However the Io’s all work in both models and does allow you to traverse between the PCI architectures ( because it does not use them)

the Cinewave card you are referring to was discontinued 2 years ago,
BUT when it shipped for FCP 3 and 4 –yes, it did offer acceleration, mixed content for FCP just as the
Matrox RT cards did to a lesser extent, but apple has not really allowed any of the other hardware companies to accelerate anything since. That would not keep you buying a new computer every 12-18 months. ( my replacement schedule –yours may very with with the economy)

First off 23.98 is correct frame rate for 24p video, on AVID or FCP in both HD and in SD in North America.
Not all versions of the Avid software support FW editing from the 1200a –Express Pro HD and the newest versions of Media Composer Adrenaline support the Native DVCproHD codec over FW.

If you are talking about working at 24.0 as a frame rate you will need to take care in the settings on the camera first, so that you can properly handle the content without compounding your post problems. (the audio settings for one). If you are talking about going back out to film, the majority of the post software out there have no issue with the 23.98 FPS format in the finishing process.
I strongly suggest that you consult with someone before you venture into the 24.0 frame rate land for video production and film outs.
