i am shooting panasonic varicam 24P footage

    i have a hd 1200 deck

i have a express pro hd with mojo

do u know if the avid supports and the hd 1200 supports editing on express pro hd for 24p via firewire

becuase in fcp it only gives 23.98 – i.e. ntsc via firewire

do u know whetehr in avid firewire it gives 24p and the hd 1200 also gives 24p and it does not drop a frame.

i was not sure also if the hd1200 deck gave a 24p out via firewire

First off 23.98 is correct frame rate for 24p video, on AVID or FCP in both HD and in SD in North America.
Not all versions of the Avid software support FW editing from the 1200a –Express Pro HD and the newest versions of Media Composer Adrenaline support the Native DVCproHD codec over FW.

If you are talking about working at 24.0 as a frame rate you will need to take care in the settings on the camera first, so that you can properly handle the content without compounding your post problems. (the audio settings for one). If you are talking about going back out to film, the majority of the post software out there have no issue with the 23.98 FPS format in the finishing process.
I strongly suggest that you consult with someone before you venture into the 24.0 frame rate land for video production and film outs.

    Dear Gary

We are actually shooting pure 24 frame rate, i.e 720/24p/60.

I need to do post for the same. For FCP my workflow involves digitising via HD/SDI and I get the EDL for 24 of the HD1200 deck

I use the same EDL to transfer to SMOKE for online and then do a filmout

This is the first project where we have the requirement for using an AVID to edit. I therefore need to understand whether I can use the FIREWIRE. I have the latest Express Pro HD software

I wanted to understand if there is any workflow via the firwire or will I need an adrenaline with the HD /SDI care. I guess then it will work same like FCP

Also do you know if there is a pluggin like the frame rate covnertor in FCP for Avid. If yes, could you please advice me how to digitise variable frame rate shots into the adrenaline.

    Thanks and Regards
