dv footage is about 3.75 mgs a second
1080p24 4:4:4 content is about 198.87 mgs a second.
1080p60 4:4:4: content is about 497.66 mgs a second

my calculator says that is between 53x to 132.7x as much….

any board you are using to send the signal back out will do this on the fly when going out via SDI or component.?

I do not understand why are you doing this in AE? the capture hardware will do this better than AE will and you must being using something to bring that signal in as 10bit Uncompressed.

Journaling is an enhanced directory structure that allows Spotlight to operate efficiently, the process is time and data intensive
when we are talking about large volumes like your xraid.
Check in the disk utility to see if journalling is on which is most likely – since you did not know about it, you did not know to turn of off for volumes when using them for video capture.

why ?

the P2 cards are in actually a 4 volume Secure Digital Raid 0 array. There are 4 SD memory cards striped together (controlled by an LSI chipset) Micro drives cannot yet maintain the correct spindle speed to achieve the capture rate needed for realtime acquisition.
The specs on this drive talk about read speeds and but not write speeds – with out the proper cache and raid control this is not possible.

About LSI
this chip company makes a majority of controller chips for transmitting content over ethernet, fibre and SCSI in addition to a major supplier of RAID controller chips as is used in the Panasonic P2 cards
They also manufacture the Apple fibre cards and offer the windows driver for that low cost card on their web site.

there are a couple of people already working on this – There is a soon to be announced 1/2 day session at NAB 06 where we we show this process from end to end. LaserPacific is suppling the us the proper support ( and their Christie 2K projector for viewing) while the x200 will only be part of the session, it will be one of the focal points of the process.

in a interlaced 60i environment shane is correct, The advantage of the Advanced pulldown it it allows you to make a clean progressive frame. your are working in interlace, kinda defeats the purpose.

Secondly 24pA was never meant to be a “Viewing” codec. It was developed for progressive post when using a interlaced or segmented field capture. The “static frame” dupe frame look of 24pA has been know to be rejected by some networks transmission standards, they are accustomed to seeing the standard 3:2 pulldown.

One has nothing to do with the other. Why? why should a progressive image have less detail than the interlaced content from the progressive capture. The camera has a 1080p imager. it starts as a progressive image.

yes, there are at least 10 post houses in LA using FCP and a Kona 2 for 444 editing.
Plaster City, Laser Pacific, Efilm. Technicolor to name a few.
