Depends on what you are trying to do, But as far as I know The D5 can handle PAL or NTSC in SD or any Single Link HD format (no dual link yet – but that will change soon to allow for a TRUE 2K capture)
The D5 does allow for 24 -25fps Conversions (as do the 1700 and 1200a DVCPROHD decks)
That does not mean that it can do Standards Conversion (that would be both Color and Frame size conversion in addition to the time base) –only the frame rate “slip” in regards to 25 and 24fps content.

Do you have an I/O box attached too? Is there an ipod on your firewire bus. Are the drives daisy chained? Do you have a deck on the firewire Chain? Is it the firmware on your card? If you take out the FW card then does the drive still drop frame when on the Apple bus? Have you tried the drive on another computer? How have you initially formatted the drive?”I want to add

it kept your DVCPROHD frame sizes. But hwy did you use media mangler for this step?: If the HDCAM tapes were at 24p it should have been a no brainer. (or did you offline at 29.97)
Did you remember to change the easy setups to a non DVCPROHD Capture between versions of the project?Open your Offline, export an XML v2 file from your sequence(s)
Create a new 1080 23.98 (8 or 10bit) project with a new Sequence
Import the XML file in to the new Project and recapture the content (or connect to the uncompressed captured content) and all should be fine.gary

720p24 Varicam HD original material captured via FW as 720p59.94 from the 1200a deck.

Interestingly enough the panasonic decks (D5, 1200a , 1700) will output a 720p24 tape as 1080 24psf and properly configured the D5 and 1700 will output a true 1080p24 file. (note the difference in the naming structure referring to progressive vs segmented frames)
However depending on which Network you broadcast on they may require a teranex for this type of conversion.

less than 30 gigs per hour in DVCPROHD native. so the answer is .30 T

I had heard sometime back that there was not going to be an Apple Event on the Sunday prior to NAB, It was posted as not going to happen on the Apple Training Listserve early last month.
So it looks as if the only FCP meeting at NAB this year is going to be the FCPUG SuperMeet.
