November 13, 2009 at 12:06 pm in reply to: AutoDesk Smoke 2010 on MAC

[Rafael Amador] “This is the kind of stuff that the guy who sign the check probably never have being sitting in an edit room. “

Actually they have, usually in the back of the room, painfully bored that they are waiting for something to render for client preview.

Look, if you are flenching at $20k for something- its not for you, but for people that have a real need for advanced compositing and finishing tools.

The Motion/ Color combo is only partial enabled with the tools to completely handle some functions – say mask an image, composite into a multilayer file and then color correct the individual layers independently from each other…

Wouldn’t it be nice to NOT have to dance around XML round tripping from Color / Un-rendered Motion Comps / FCP when outputting?

Lastly, remember in the areas that FCS lacks in, Smoke is an industry leader. Smoke is the clear leader for finishing of content in 444 / DPX / Film out style workflows, and if you have ever had someone pacing behind you in the edit suite, being able to work with this level of toolset, at highest quality, in realtime make a difference.

November 13, 2009 at 12:03 pm in reply to: Workflow for AJA KONA 3 HD : how to work in 25p ?

[Tania Chepurna] “I have the same problem, but from another side. I need transfer from Telecine thru Aja Kona 3 film print in 1080 25p. When I choose in Aja control panel 1080 25p have the same like in your panel. I use QT 7 for capture video. “

Tania, download the free VTX exchange App from AJA to do this, you will not be able to correctly capture this kind of content in the QT player.

Note that AJA calls this format 1080 25i (which is really PsF)

  • [jason morton] “Now am i right in thinking i will need a pci card with firewire 800 for my media drives on the Mac Pro?”

Yes, either that or something like eStata.

Many people just create a RAID0 volume using internal drives on the MacPro

November 13, 2009 at 11:37 am in reply to: Gamma Guide

[Eli Mavros] “Jerry, strange thing is, a co-worker is claiming to be having some gamma issues he thought he had solved, even though he is running Snow Leopard. “

I am going to bet that they upgraded to Snow rather than a clean install.

When users upgrade FCP workstations to Snow, the QT gamma bug persists since the upgrade does not remove the older version of QTPro.

if you do not trash all of the older QTPro pref files, and then trash QT 7 ( the QT7.app will be in the Utilities folder) and reinstall ( i had a serial number- not just the QTPro Free that comes with FCS)

November 13, 2009 at 11:16 am in reply to: SDI Triggered Recording

[Hector Silva] “As a follow up to my original question and concern, AJA has introduced start/stop record based on time code transmission through source SDI signal in their latest firmware update. “

On cameras that support it, Yes the current update does allow for this with the 20 something cameras I have tested it on.

November 12, 2009 at 12:20 pm in reply to: Purple line on my BPRo & IOHD

[Jeff Mack] “The pre loaded video didn’t go through the IOHD though. It resided on my desktop. Wirecast just acted like a switcher”

In my world Wirecast is a compression tool to deliver live streams to the web.
A green line like the one shown is usually compression error in the encode, you might fill in the blanks about Type of compression used – what telco access level for the data path, etc.

on the D30, can we assume that you were streaming from the Sony camera version or the Canon version?

  • [jason morton] “My software for my AJA Kona ioHD won’t install on my Mac Pro 2x 2.66”

Kinda hard to help you when there is NO info,

    what driver?
    what OS
    what FCP.

if you are working in FCP 7 you MUST BE at 7.01 for both FCP and the IoHD Driver software.

November 12, 2009 at 12:41 am in reply to: Purple line on my BPRo & IOHD

[Jeff Mack] “When I was streaming the d30, I had a thin green line across the preview and live screen within Wirecast. It also transmitted over the internet onto my wirecast stream. When I switched to a preloaded video, the line went away”

If the issue was with the IoHD it would be in Every signal point after the Iohd- you even say that it was first seen in the wirecast and not seen in the preloaded content -so it HAS to be something with the wirecast encoder.

November 11, 2009 at 4:41 pm in reply to: Keynote, QT, FCP = viewing problems

[Mike Brumbaugh] “Format set to Custom, Video = Full size (1920×1080) “

this is an HD frame not an SD frame size, unless you were working with BluRay this is too large.

[Mike Brumbaugh] “I import the Mov into FCP, edit timings, export to Compressor using Apple ProRes 422. “

The new version of keynote needs to be manually recorded to get the timing correct, there is a function within Keynote for this under the file menu called Record Slideshow.
