November 11, 2009 at 4:16 pm in reply to: Aja TV Audio Routing?

[Klaas Byl] “I know that a 5.1 monitoring system is not possible with using the outs of Kona LHe. Thats why we baught the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 which works well with its 6 discrete analog outs. “

    Klaas,
myself and others use the technique I described, mainly due to the fact the mux’ing of the 5.1 audio stream is usually done after the edit is completed.

Tech support is correct that you cannot separate the audio from the video in the freeware aja tools.

You might try playing out via VTR exchange- it does allow for separate routing of audio and video.

November 11, 2009 at 4:06 pm in reply to: Connecting KLHI-BOS with capture card and devices

[Don Schechter] “I go in from card to the out of the box? I’m not sure what the “connect to host” cable is on the box (wish there was documentation of any sort with the box…)
    “

There is ample documentation that ships with the LHI card.

The card only connects to the LH Box, all deck connections are made from the box.
if you bothered to go to the web site you would find the manual.

November 9, 2009 at 3:11 pm in reply to: Is this the right forum to make this post

[Martin Jordan] “I was wondering if anyone knows, that if I bought another ATI 4870 and stuck it into a open PCI slot, would Open GL has access it? “

    No.
FCP does not support multiple graphics cards at this time, even under SNOW, so adding the card could cause more issues than it would fix.

[gary adcock] “you would need an AES disembedder to extract more than 4 channels of audio from the LH card.
    “

    Klass.

the LH does not support more than 4 analog outputs, to get more you will have to get something to dis-embed the audio from the video signal to get the correct number of audio outs.

November 8, 2009 at 6:05 pm in reply to: Ki Pro in 24p

[Blase Theodore] “I’m using a Ki Pro for the first time and I’m feeding it a 24p signal which its reading as a 30i signal and recording as 30psf? “

The KiPro is going to record whatever video signal your camera is sending out. Not all cameras can directly capture and playback 23.98. 720p records 23.98p in a 59.94p stream for instance.

If you need the signal to record as PsF (which is only possible with 1080 captures) you will need to confirm that setting in the MENU 1.1 is for PsF- recording set to “Normal” will capture the file as 60i not 29.97 sf.

did you read the quickstart guide?

    Klass

routing of the audio signal is done thru the Kona control panel- but all the audio ports should be working during output.

you would need an AES disembedder to extract more than 4 channels of audio from the LH card.

  • [Joseph Owens] “We didn’t used to have this facility, right?
I can recall a project from a couple of years ago that was shot 1080i60 (DVCProHD)”

it has only been enabled for a little over a year in software.

A couple of years ago the camera companies did not think to add this type of info into the data stream for the card to see the info the camera companies have to use the technology so it can be seen.

November 7, 2009 at 2:28 pm in reply to: Capture from HDCAM deck?

[James Whittington] “The footage is 23.98 1080P. My settings are as follos:

Sequence Preset: AJA Kona LH: 1080p 23.98 Apple ProRes422
Capture Preset: AJA Kona LH: 1080p 23.98 Apple ProRes422 VFR
Device Control Preset: AJA Kona LH NTSC 23.98 VTR
Video Playback: AJA Kona 1080p23.98 8 Bit (1920×1080)
    Audio Playback: AJA Kona
    “

The default format for HDCamSR recording is PsF NOT P, maybe if you set the LH to the Kona easy setup for Kona 1080 23:98 sF the AJA Kona LH NTSC 23.98 VTR does not look correct to me- it should be SONY VTR

November 6, 2009 at 2:51 pm in reply to: FCP Warning Drop vs Non-Drop Frame

    [Jesus Ali] “Isn’t 23.98 actually Drop-Frame?
Straight on 24 would be NOT Drop-Frame. But isn’t 23.98 meant to match television rates of 29.97 “

    NO. NO NO

There is no such thing as drop frame below 30fps.

The 23.98 timing is to allow NTSC sync, but you are not “dropping frames” To achieve the 23.976 frame rate the decks recording mechanism is PHYSICALLY slowed during the record so that the content plays properly on SD TV sets.

this is why an HDCam tape can record 30 min at 29.97 but 45 min at 23.98.

  • Michael-I just heard about something like this – are you based or working out of the DC/ baltimore area?

[Michael Glass] “The fourth drive produced two files — one 30GB and one 6GB. The 30GB file appears to be corrupt. Neither Quicktime, nor VLC, nor MPEG Streamclip nor any of our other tools can open the file. “

Yes the QT files can get corrupted, I have only seen this happen when the Drive Module is partially removed during a recording or the drive is removed from the KiPro unit without first un-mounting (by using the SLOT button) the drive module while the unit is powered up.

I am under the impression that this is no way to “fix” a corrupted ProRes file.
