Jeremy, thanks for taking the time to respond.

    Answers to your questions:

    – FCP 5.1.4
    – AJA Control Panel 3.4
    – QT 7.1.6

Audio embedded in SDI (4 channels)

Levels in FCP don’t clip and transfer doesn’t distort 2 out of 3 times… when it distorts, I simply restart it and it works.

I heard a rumor that it might be a memory allocation issue?

    Thanks,

    Frederic

    SOLUTION:

    In the HDW-1800 deck:

    Enter the maintenance menu:

    1/ Alt – f9

    2/ MAINT MODE/OTHERS/VANC RX PARAMETER

    (For 708 Compliant CC)

Line 1 Line 2 DID SDID
    009 572 61 01

    3/ Don’t blank any lines

Cleaning the heads seemed to fix the problem.

    Couple things to check:

    – Deck should have TC set to EXT
    – Edit to tape window should have TC selected (yellow on)

    Well thanks man. Makes sense.

In the meantime, my solution is to stripe a D5 720p 59.94 tape DF and dump the show without timecode onto it from a 720p 59.94 NDF timeline.

Now I have to deal with HD closed caption and make sure it’s 608 compliant… But that’s a whole other story.

    Ahhh… can’t wait to edit in 4K 😉

    Actually, that’s not true anymore.

Television (History Channel Family & others) prefers 24p. (d5 23.98) It’s a universal master and makes going to PAL painless in comparison with 29.97.

Another huge advantage of cutting dvcpro hd in 23.98 is space saving. Less than 50% of 60. I know, Panasonic isn’t using repeat flags but stores the full information for each and every frame (even the repeated ones).

In the HD world, 24p is quickly becoming the defacto.
