    Hi Ben

    Thanks for the info.

The Why is “the client” wants the file to be playable on older machines, machins that have WM8 installed. We deliverd a set of WMv9 files and they said everyting was fine, until MIS got a call…. and you know the rest of the story..

So far 10.4.1 is not the way to go.

We are using 10.3.9 (some folks feel 10.3.8 is best), QuickTime 7.0.1, FCP 5 and the current KONA drivers is very workable.

    Judge S.

Zip is a lossless data compression so there will be no change in the quality of the file. But the file will not get any smaller because it is already compressed.

    Hi Lisa

Thanks for the feedback, Windows Media Encoder will work but it will not accept my source files, I will still have to convert/encode them twice. First for input to WME and then in WME for the fimal output.

What I am really looking for is an Encoder that will take in DCVProHD MOV files and convert them to WMV version 8.

    Thanks

We have the exact same configuration, except we installed OS 10.3.9 not the dual 2.7, and we have a different Raid.

We have no sync issues if we set the KONA Control Panel to sync on Video In before we begin the batch capture.

If the KONA Control Panel is set to sync on Ref In or FreeRun then you will get a 2 -4 frame audio sync offset as well as an audio pop at the head of each clip of the Batch Capture.

VirtualVTR will control a QT movie, not the FCP time line.

    FYI Keith

The new 2.7 GHz G5s run just fine under 10.3.9

I have two and they came with 10.4, we erased the drives and installed 10.3 and then the 10.3.9 combined updater, all is fine.

  • “What about those clips captured with the Apple Uncompressed 4:2:2 8bit or 10bit codec, which apparently is installed with FCP ? Is there a way to copy the codecs over to the other Macs that doesn’t have FCP installed ? ”

We move the files machines that do not have KONA2 cards but they do have FCP.

I am sure you can move the codecs, but I am not sure if that is legal.

    Fred

  • Don’t need the Kona Drivers. If you use any DVxxxx or uncompressed codec.
