If your clips were recorded as stereo they will already be panned Track 1 to the left and track 2 to the right. Park the playhead over any stereo tracks and bring up the audio mixer under the tools menu and you will see how the tracks are panned. If you want to pan both tracks to one side you will need to do what Ben said.

The original question was about backing up media. So, if you navigate to the drive set as the scratch disk, there will be a folder titled “Final Cut Pro Documents”. Inside that there are several folders, apart from the audio render files, render files, cache file folders, there will be a folder titled “Capture Scratch”. Inside that there will be seperate folders for each project title. You just need to drag and drop these folders to another drive and you will have your Quicktime files backed up. It wont copy any render files or project files. However if you have set a Folder in your scratch dik settings instead of just selecting a drive, then you could run into the problem Ben has mentioned about files from Project A ending up in project B.

Of course if you just want a back up of the quicktime files then you could just go to the finder and drag and drop the capture scratch folder to another hard drive.

Due to the difference in film speed Vs video speed in NTSC land, it is much more desireable to have the sound synced with picture during the telecine process. Most labs are equipped with dat machines that can handle the required pulldown of the audio. You will then just get dailies tapes with timecode for hour 1, hour 2, hour 3 etc. You will also get a .flx file which you will use to create your data base in cinema tools so that when you create EDL’s for sound and picture cuts, they will reference back to the original sound rolls and camera reels. This is the most common workflow, however some people elect to sync the audio later in FCP to save a few dollars at the lab but inevitably end up here, or on anther board wondering why they cant get their audio in sync.

Q actually only toggles between the viewer and canvas. If you want to select any window individually you can also try, Apple 1 (viewer) Apple 2 (canvas) Apple 3 (timeline) Apple 4 (Browser). Just a FYI. Most times when there is a keybooard shortcut if you go up to the menus, to the right of the command the shortcut will be shown.

It sounds like you have the IRE set up wrong on the black magic card. I’m not too familiar with the BM but with AJA they have a software control panel where you can swith the analog inputs from 0 IRE to 7.5 IRE. I would assume Black Magic has something similar.

But seriously Greg, with the amount of information you’ve given how do you expect anyone to provide a possible solution.
At least provide some system specs, sequence settings, type of tape machine, capture/playback card, or via firewire, are you using print to video, edit to tape or just hitting play and record? -
Have you tried rendering the transition?
